Going from Canon G10 to G12 or S95?

Hello all, I've been registered here for over a year but this is my first post.

I have a Canon G10 and I am thinking of changing to a G12 or S95. You can see an example of the sort of stuff I take with the G10 here.

Until today I hadn't heard of an S95, let alone considered one. But reading the Ken Rockwell blog, he raves about his, so I'm close to a purchase.

What I like about the look of the S95 is its size, the f2.0 aperture and the fact that it's specs are almost identical to the G12.

However, I have one issue; I use Manual mode quite a lot on the G10 and adjust between this and also Av/Tv for 90% of my shots. I worry that this will be a fiddly job on the S95.

Any owners of the G12 and S95 care to share their views? Thanks.
 
I don't know anything about the others, but I got an S95 last week and love it. A fantastic camera, manual settings, smart control ring, lots of options, and small enough to fit in the pocket of a pair of jeans.
Night pics are amazing to, hand held at less than 800 ISO, no blur or noise, as clear as a bell.

I carry mine with me everywhere and I havn't been disapointed yet.

I've had a few Canon G's over the years and borrowed a friends S95 last week to play with. It's a great camera, photos are great and the size means there is much more chance it will be in your pocket when you need it.
 
don't think the s95 has a viewfinder then again don't know wether it's much use on the g12
 
I have a g11 and have played with a s95. I would say that the controls on the G series are much easier to alter than the s series. If you used auto a lot I would say the s95 is the better camera, but for manual controls get the G series.
 
What exactly is wrong with G10, that Gxx or Sxx will do much better?

I can't see any reason to 'upgrade' from one compact to another (i.e. support Canon marketing and RD departments).

I'd say it is time to look at a dSLR if you really want to step up.
 
I have the s95 and it is a remarkable camera for the size. It produces superb images and is SO easy to carry about.
