Godox Propac PB960 units unreliable

Hi everyone, if you could advise would be awesome and thanks in advance for those who can advise.

I bought August time last year a couple of Godox Propac PB960 packs for obvious reasons i didnt want to wait around for the batteries to cycle but found in last few times using them they have been very unreliable and after about 5-10 flashes seem to power down on full charge. Could it be the battery packs at fault, seems weird that both are doing the same and in the time ive had them not used them very much at all, less than 1000 shots in total for sure. I wondered if it was something relating to not recognising my Photix flash units but in the past it just worked so why have they become unusable???

Sitting confused to be honest and need something reliable if anyone has recommendations/advise or other reliable replacement suggestions? All i use them for is to do a bit of fill in flash on race days so need very little use but when i need it, they need to work. I use them with my Nikon d750 bodies.

Thanks again!

It might be a fault but my first thought is what you describe sounds more like the batteries has been left fully discharged which causes them to lose a lot of capacity quickly.

Thanks for the reply, so if they are not used often the battery becomes quick to become dead? So would the solution be to charge them regularly before i want to use them?

Thanks again

If you leave a battery fully discharged for a long period of time you will cause it to lose a lot of its capacity permanently but otherwise batteries will naturally lose their capacity slowly from either age or the number of power cycles (full discharge and recharge). Assuming those batteries have lost so much of their capacity that they can only get off a few flashes then your only choice is to replace them.

I'm told the ideal way to maintain a lithium battery is to keep it around 60% rather than constantly topping it up but lithium is usually easier to maintain than say an SLA battery, just avoid leaving them fully discharged for any length of time and you should get the most out of them.

I see that makes sense thanks. Ive prolly heard that before too thinking about it.

Thanks again!

I haven't been on this forum for a while and have just seen this thread.
This reply isn't an answer just an observation of what I have.
I have two Godox Propac PB960 batteries and have had since 17th May 2017.
I have used these about 20 times in that year with about 500 shots.
I have gone a least 4 months at one stage without recharging or using them.
They hold their charge amazingly well and even after that long no use period they were still showing 4 lights and didn't let me down when I came to using them.
The reason for posting this is more to show these hold a charge and still work after a long time.
Meaning I would say you have a duff set.
Sorry...

What you’ve done, is what most people do, and the batteries will work perfectly.

The problem occurs when the batteries are left for a long time with no charge (as posted above). Likewise constant topping up reduces the lifespan.
You’ll find this repeated in the instruction book for a laptop or any Li Ion powered device.

No, irregular use is fine, just don’t leave them with dead batteries.
