In the animals and nature section a series of images featuring goats were describes as "cute"

I can assure you there is nothing cute about goats, I know, I have kept them before, you have to be very wary of those horns especially with children around, they have a habit of butting you, and they are escape artists!! they can squeeze through the tiniest of openings, they can open gates, untie knots, and leap over fences from standing. I enquired about 3rd party liability insurance after mine were found wandering up the A1 dual carriageway It would only be given with the proviso that I secured them behind an 8ft fence!!.

And milking them is an acquired skill that I never mastered and when I did manage to collect a pail full it tasted bitter because mine preferred stripping bark from the trees rather than eat the vegetation.

I did not keep them long after the A1 incident.

Sheep, goats, ducks, geese, hens, tried em all, and finally defeated by vermin and DEFRA rules which make it more bother than it's worth.

I now have horses grazing part of the land and mow the rest.

Not seen the thread, but goats can be cute!! The billy goats even smell good when you use enough aftershave on them (was a rather good party that night ). Milking them does take a few goes to get the hang of it, but its easy enough once you get used to it, ony problem we found was that the horses would try to get to drink the milk if you were not careful :D :D

DEFRA was not as 'active' then as it is now though!

Too right - I got into a battle with one in safari park when it attacked me.

Oh they can be very cute. There are two pigmy goats at the livery yard and they are pure entertainment. The other day I was taking our horse's feed to her stable when the goats started following me. I ended up with their front hooves up on my waist and one of them had her head in the feed bucket! During the winter they actually share a stable on a night with a miniature shetland pony which is absolutely adorable!

Cute and adorable yes, but never again, I had one that loved women but as soon as myself and other men approached it it would turn and present it's rear:eek: no doubt the result of a bad experience from a previous owner.

They are a very mischievous breed anyway and after attempting to kick me once he was soon on his way :D.

I have no livestock/poultry to worry about now :), the horses belong to a friend, but it is still a lot of work managing the land.

I agree, not cute! My sister had British Alpines when we were kids, I had a pony instead, a welsh section B which I showed quite successfully until they acquired a taste for his tail!!! Can't stand goats milk either.

Never tasted one, would imagine it to be a tough meat with a strong taste.

No money changed hands when mine were dispatched, in a canny bit of country bartering they were swapped for a wood burning stove:D

i did some work a few years ago with a mate of mine, for two days a goat was eyeing us up from the other side of a wall, on the third day i was late in and as i entered the yard, i just caught sight of a charging goat fast approaching my mate who was on his knees floating a bit of concrete up, the goat struck him directly on the head and knocked him sideways, the goat backed up ready for another go ! as my mate was not moving any more the goat paused, this gave me the chance to deliver my best mike tyson haymaker on said goats chops, the goat looked at me and just wandered off leaving my mate unconcious and me nursing a broken finger and cuts from it's teeth.....goats...cute ?....my @rse :bat:
