hey all
I'm looking to get new battery's for my HD hero 2 and been looking around, i've seen a few no genuine battery's but do they work well or should i stick to the genuine ones? also is there such a thing as a mains charger for them as im having to charge batterys through the laptop :( any ideas would be great :)

I have a GoPro3, not sure how similar they are (I think the batteries may be slightly smaller).

I've got 1 x original battery and 2 x 3rd party cheap ones. Can't say I notice a difference. I also use an external charger, have never charged the batteries in camera. Works well, same as any DSLR battery charger; they all take the same power cable input too so nice and easy when I take my gear away.

All I can see on eBay is more GoPro3 ones, but I'd be massively surprised if they didn't do anything similar for the HD Hero 2.

I've started using a battery bacpac for mine. Changing batteries is never possible, let alone remotely practical for me, but this doubles battery life. One thing that annoys me though, I can't pass thru charge, I have to take it off and charge serperatly.

Searching ebay or google for go pro hero 2 batteries turns up loads http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GoPro-Spa...o-Camera-/291031161308?_trksid=p2054897.l4276 You can get the same from Amazon slightly cheaper

some of the non - gopro batteries that I have (have 6) the fitment is VERY tight, especially in the removable back.

I, and others who have GoPro use the old type Blackberry wall charger. Has all the same outputs as the genuine GoPro ones and can be bought for literally next to nothing.

thanks all for the replies, so the non genuine battery's are okay i'll have to have a butchers through ebay :) when you say old type blackberry wall charger do you mean the acutal mobile phone charger?

Certainly do. The old blackberry ones charge my HD hero as they're both small USB.

Any usb charger, eg iphone plugs (with a miniUSB cable) work fine.

The ebay internal batteries also work great, as do the external battery mains chargers.

I also use skeleton gopro cases with a USB 9000mAH battery pack for timelapses or longer shoots without accessible mains

I have 2 different makes of non-genuine battery's, both last just as long as the genuine one, but are a tighter fit.

Wasabi do a range of top quality Hero 2 batteries and chargers. Hard to come by in the UK sometimes but might be worth looking on Amazon/Ebay.

looks like i won't need any battery's now i think im going to sell it after ive come up against all its draw back :( and get a drift ghost hd camera they look better than my go pro hero2

The Hero 2 is quite an old model in terms of available accessories. The Drift is a decent camera but I would still recommend the Hero 3 or 3+ over the Drift, although Drift do have a new model out too called the HD S which might be worth looking at.

think im still going to get a drift it fits better the a go pro sticking out
