I have been using Gmail (4 accounts), BT mail and Outlook email all with Mozilla Thunderbird interface for many years. I use two PC's (one with W10 and the other with W7).
BT and Outlook continue to perform faultlessly.
4 days ago all Gmail accounts began presenting the same problem on both PC's.
When attempting to send email, Google blocks the message and throws up a password authentication failure message. After repeated transmitting attempts Google sends me a text with a 6 digit identity verification code which results in normal email service, but within a day the problem returns.

If it was not for the magnitude of the task I would dump Gmail and change my contact email adresses with the mountain of people affected.

Before I commit to axing Gmail I would appreciate hearing anyone's idea how to sort the problem.

Cheers folks !

Is the gmail password a long complicated one or shortish and simple? It might be setting off a password policy violation if it's too easy to guess or if it's a reused password. I've had that issue before with logins suddenly not working.

I haven't got that issue. It doesn't help you except it suggests that it is likely your account or setup specific. You are most likely using app specific passwords from google so perhaps just try creating a new one and update apps as necessary. Failing that I'm sure google support may check your account over for any issues on their end.

Finally, while you probably don't want to switch overnight you may want to consider running a second email that is perhaps more business focused. Clients don't like to see generic email addresses, and secondly google is definitely eating a few important emails a year for no obvious reason.

Search for check OATH 2 permission on the Thunderbird forums.

Google have probably blocked your sign in as they have been stopping access via systems that they regard as less secure.

You can regain acces but its a PITA

I had read that no so long ago and I did regain access and it was a major PITA. 36 hours later it went Pete Tong again. I am in the process of changing all my email contacts to BT or Outlook. When that LARGE task is done I will consign Gmail to the bin.
