Afternoon all

I'm visiting the above with a friend in mid Jan, and while there are some obvious locations looking at other threads I'm just wondering what points are special so we can get ourselves a little bit organised as we only have 4 days and I'm not expecting good weather…

suggestions please
 
I suggest not taking suggestions as you will tend to look up the areas that have been suggested then go to said area and take a shot the same as the other 10 million that have been taken in that area , you can't go wrong anywhere in glencoe so why not go with the mission of getting some images of places less photographed. I guarantee you will look at the place differently by doing so.

There are countless iconic shots to be made, like Stuart says. Pick yourself a mountain or two and climb them. You'll get a better feeling for the land up there, than you would trawling from postcard view to postcard view.

My first trip up there, I only had a couple of nights, but a climb up Stob Coire Nan Lochan, and hefty hikes in the Quiraing and Cuillin were much more satisfying than the usual shots!
 
Thanks both, I don't disagree Stuart but a base of locations means some good shots should be achieved, I'm concerned our 4ish days might become 1 with the weather

Agree with Stuart and Matty. Have a look at the relevant maps. The OS overlay on Bing maps is good and free. Use The Photographer's Ephemeris to check the positions of sun rise and set. As the day length is short and you have limited time I'd limit the disatnace travelled. There is enough within about 20 miles to fill four days easily; you can't go wrong anywhere around Glencoe.

if you are visiting the area i would reccomend snow winter tyres .if you dont have access to a 4x4.these images are taken last year jan 14-2015.the picture with no traffic on is about a quarter of a mile b4 glen etive turn off.dont underestimate the conditions

That's the plan Dave, my mate lives in Perth so has an obsession with castles so will have to find one of them as well... Not used bing maps as usually use google but I will give it a go cheers

Luckily he is hiring a car when he gets here so we're only risking an excess claim....
 
im trying to be positive lol.i never made it that day to etive as the road was closed ,it was only my fighting spirit that took me that far
 
The OS overlay on Bing Maps can look as if it is not working, I was confused by it for a while. Although you can choose OS map at any scale of map, it doesn't show until you have zoomed in far enough, but it is useful once you get there.

One good thing about being up that far is that the light is only suboptimal for an hour or two, if you get some of course.

Is that the A82? If it is, then that is so rare to have any snow like that!
