been on here for a few years and had a look at nudes and glamour section, very good pictures, but i feel there's something missing, possibly an appreciation for the older form, are there any older models, or is the market for young one's. are fuller figure models harder to photograph ????, harder to find, etc or is there just no interest,

i am making reference to something like calender girls

There are no pics of ford mondeos in the motorsport section, same reasoning.
 
Mercmanuk, I can understand your frustration and i may also be able to explain slightly. Ive participated in a life drawing course as part of my college diploma and we regularly had a middle aged, curvy, fuller figured model. I once asked my teacher "Why can't we draw young, slim, pretty models?" She replied "One, because young, slim, pretty models are boring to draw and too easy! Two, because every Tom, Dick and Harry, would take up Life Drawing!" I understood this totally and put my head back down to my drawing, as she walked away she quickly turned around and said "The opposite can be said for Photography!"

I think you seldom see your type of model because there is no demand for it, when glamour modelling is sold it's sold as sex and sex is usally aimed at the 18-35 year old and of that age group it's usually sold to Men! Generally Men want to see young, slim, big boobed, blonde models and so this is what they get. Could you imagine a nation of blokes picking FHM off the shelf because Judi Dench is doing a Lingerie shoot in it? No! Not to say Dame Judy isn't attractive, she just wants to be seen clothed by the general consensus.

Due to this i do believe your type of model is harder to photograph, but only because if you were to photograph women like this you would spend all day trying to make her look like the generic model! The truth is plus size models and all other shapes and sizes are interesting to photograph and i take great honour when any woman asks me to photograph her, a good photographer will make any image they take beautiful.

I am currently a photographer for an e-commerce clothing company and i am in charge of 4 models, 2 male and 2 females and they are aged 21-26, the girls are size 6 and 10, the males are 6ft medium, athletic builds and this is the type of people my bosses want their clothes modelled on, the reason being when people see the clothes on them they believe they either look like them or can look like them and so the clothes are sold.

I also photograph weddings at weekends and one of the defining moments of my career was when a size 30 bride asked me to take her wedding photos knowing i photographed models all day. She told my wife "I asked Nick because i know he'll take me for who i am and he'll make me look beautiful!" I was blown away by that comment and they were some of the best photos i ever took.

I guess the answer to your question is the majority don't want to see it as with a lot of things in modern society. But i think there should be more of this, if anything people should see it as a challenge. It's magazines and misconceptions that make women feel awful and young girls anorexic. It's not all bad though, the first ever plus size fashion show was held at New York Fashion week last week so people are opening their minds to new things, if only very slowly.

And yes there are no pics of Ford Mondeos in the Motorsport section but im pretty sure there are Ford GT40's, Ferrari Dino's, AC Cobras and Aston Martin DB5's amongst others, the Bugatti Veyron is one of the fattest bummed cars ive ever seen in my life...but my god is that thing beautiful!
 
Good post Nick... and FWIW Mercman, I prefer working with more mature models... they're like fine wines as far as I'm concerned! :thumbs:

The established mainstream culture is that models must conform to a certain cookie-cutter outline - whether it's young and thin in fashion, or young and thin with improbable curves in glamour.

There are photographers taking and posting images of models that challenge the convention, for example you will find several on Flickr, but the mainstream gets its revenge with almost fetishictic tags and group invites.

I occasionally have a flick through the N&G forum, and I wonder if I've got the right interpretation.. N&G is about using a model to realise the potential of the photographers vision, portraits are using the photographer's skills to bring about something from within the sitter. Perhaps it's this distinction that makes the perfect skin, etc of convention and youth easier to manipulate for N&G, whilst an older and/or less conventional figure would requre more adaptability in the skill of the photographer to bring the best out of the sitter?

And there are Mondeos on the Motorport forum.. I've seen a few and posted one or two, admittedly they're not always recognisable by the time a banger race has reached the end..
 
If anyone (relatively local) has a warm studio, I'm willing to model for them.

I'm not what could be called slim or young or pretty (OR female!) so, be warned. I prefer filter coffee to instant (will drink instant but you might catch me making faces!) and would require feeding as payment.
 
probably because most people do it for fun rather than for money in the G&N section so don't really want to pay good money to shoot an overweight OAP :lol:

If you want a real challenge an older fuller figure model will be it.
But if you suceed what will you do with them.

The only market I know is makeover sessions for mature ladies. They like them, but don't sask me why. It is not something you can do on your own, you need a dressr, hair stylist and make up artist who works with figures as well as faces.

I suppose i am too much of an artist to see a negative impact, it's all about shape's, form, interesting eye involvement,

i feel the balance need to be readdressed.

Prescott Hill climb by Cheltenham is owned by the Bugatti owners club. It's not unusual to see two or three at each meet, or seven at the last La Vie en Bleu, including the beautiful stainless steel and carbon fibre one.

Are they ugly - nope, you just need to find the right angles.

Elderly models? Well it's easier photographing younger models with perfect skin, but there's something about the older woman. Lets face it, they're all about curves.

Didn't Vogue run an older woman issue last year and I think Debenhams just announced they are using older models to target the 'forgotten woman'

The launch campaign features three looks - power dressing, casual and party dresses - and uses models Valerie Pain, 66, Caroline Josling, 52, and Maxine Smith, 41.

I do occasionally pop into the N&G section looking for just those shots. The lovely young ladies are very nice to look at but I always leave feeling a tad disappointed.

It's just those shots blending light and form to create 2d sculptures that I'd like to see.

Surely for something beautiful, you should need to search out angles to make it look ugly rather than catch its good side to make it look beautiful?

A remarkable piece of engineering, yes but automotive porn, I think not. Wouldn't say no to one as a gift BUT there are other things I would rather spend that sort of money on.

No offence to any young ladies here but I personally don't find women interesting until they hit their thirties and upwards. 18-28 etc all seem the same to me, no depth etc but that could just be the ones I come across so wouldn't like to generalise too much here! lol.

But, I find that if you look at the model sites and girls in the 18-28 range seem to lack a certain level of class, not all of them but I'd say the majority. They all seem to go for that crappy, plastic looking, fake bazooms and ditsy look with an alcopop on standby.

Sod that, give me real women with proper curves and class any day! :D The classic saying can be reversed, it's not just what you've got but it's what you do with it...and there's nothing better than a "normal" size and shaped woman who knows how to work it!

Each to their own but several of your comments are rather stereotypical. Yes I can't stand the "barbie + fake tan + fake boob + fake eye lash" look either but a beautiful clean fresh natural look is stunning and what I like.
 
thanks for all the feed back folks i hope i didnt touch on a subject that hurt peoples feelings .but was plesantly surprised about the out come of this subject
 
then again, check out the "alternative " model scene on facebook. perfect storm for instance.
there are plenty of "curvy models"
although few of the more mature ones.
i must admit that i find it a little irritating that the majority of "glamour models" tend to be blonde, skinny and big boobed.
 
when ever i see a professional model there is one constantly bit of critique i can say will always be there, stress in the eyes, you can not mask it, it's a tell-tail sign, over worked, and not rested, it spreads to the smile as well after time, then to the face, then to the body language, it's all competition and no fun after a while.
