Ok, so Im late in my discovery of GHD's but I had my hair straightened today, and I think I kinda like it! :D
So, I was just wondering how peeps get on with straighteners?
Do they cause much damage to the hair, especially long hair, in regards to drying & dry & splitting?
Oh! and how often is it ok to use them?

Can't help with the long and curly hair Q's though as I don't tend to straighten them ;)
 
They are studily expensive but really good hairstrainghters. My GF has her hair straightend by them and she really wants a pair or one or whatever!

Damage, yes, you will need to use a heat protecting spray - imagine getting the Sunday roast out of the oven without oven gloves ( GHD's are about 220 degs ) !

The, ahem, steam you see when using irons is just that, steam but it tends to be the natural moisture getting out, so if you have coloured or highlighted hair aswell its double trouble, use a nice moisturising shampoo and treatment and also a heat protector spray - fail to do so at your peril.

Pm me for some product recommendations, all of the products will be professional and should be available in a local salon - I have to say aswell that if you bought the Irons from a salon they should really have suggested a suitable regime.

I know nothing about GHD's other than that my wife and daughter are both on their second ones now and won't consider any other model.
 
i think they are ceramic..... thts all i know and girls moan a lot if they break... but then again girls just moan a lot....

Thanks for the info dseered, I havent actually been to a salon, my neice decided this aftie that my wild locks looked in need of taming, and used her GHD's on them.
I quite like the look (never had sleek hair) and so am playing with the idea of investing.
Dont have coloured hair, dont use any products on it, but it is a bit 'fragile' ;)

OK, fragile is not ideal for 220 degrees, perhaps consider that you can get other brands of Iron that have a temp controller, so, night out, protector product full chat, next day, just to titivate turn 'em right down - not able to do this with GHD's

Also consider that fashion this Summer is more 'Movement' orientated so natural curls and waves.

Also maybe worth a consultation at a decent salon, get your locks checked out and use some reconstructive products to get you back in tip top condition !
 
I had a cheapish pair of straightners, and didn't really get much of a result, after a trip to a salon and seeing the results from GHD's, i bought a pair. The difference was amazing. GHD's aren't the only great brand when it comes to straightners, but definately go for a reputable brand, as you get what you pay for in my experience.

I found that after a while my hair became brittle at the ends, but i wasn't using any sort of product to protect it. :bang: There are plenty of different products that protect the hair from drying out and being damaged, not only from starightners but from blow drying as well.:)

MY missus has spoken to a couple of hairdressers and yes they are the best but they charge a premium. She had a pair reccomended [can't recall the make etc] and went for them instead.
 
GHD's are very very good, but prohibitively expensive. I bought a set of Remmington Professional Digital slim straighteners several months ago that heat to 230 degrees [though I usually run them at 200 or 210] and they are, according to the hair-dressing sister of my friend, as good as GHD's and half the price. Like dseered said though, need to really pamper the hair with decent shampoos/conditioners and heat protection spray when using this kind of equipment. I have to say though, I have been mightily impressed both in terms of how long the straightening lasts [hell, these days I can survive a small rain shower that would have had me frizzed up instantly previously] and how quick and easy they are and using the right products means that only now, some 4 months after last cut am i starting to get split ends and breakage, and I think that is becuase another cut is well overdue :bonk:

Shhhhh! Nooo! Dont recommend them guys! They just adds ANOTHER 20 mins to the getting ready process! :bang::bang:
 
I went to the hair dressers a few years ago because I wanted something different and came out with it coloured and straightened and liked the look so ended up buying one (pair/set/some?) ,but I also use heat protector spray and a straightening gel stuff. The hairdresser also recommended (because my hair is somewhat wild) some hair spray as well just before running the GHD's over it as it must be dry of water but apparently hair spray is okay.

I now use them for a week or two every few months when the mood takes me to go straight and do it properly just after I have washed my hair and in the mornings to flatten it again for the next few days - but never if the weather is damp as it just bounces straight up again. I have not noticed any more splitting than usual.

Give it another few years and it might be time to go to the hairdressers again - as for the price - the GHD's worked out cheaper than one trip to the hairdresser so was worth it for me.
 
I bought some T3's about 3 years ago..billion times better than GHD's! Also come with a two year guarantee! They are similar in price to GHD's and have converted all of my GHD obsessed mates :)

yes, but it saves you the "does my hair look alright", "god i cant do anything with my hair", "i need it recut,restyled" etc etc etc. meaning less spend and more money for lenses:D

no idea which ones the missus uses, but she seems happy with them
 
Think I might take a look at the Rems suggested by LP & LL, I have also heard good things about T3's.

In the meantime ... I cant take my eyes off these babies that I found in the beauty wholesalers!
Expensive taste... moi? :eek: :lol:

I have been the proud owner of GHD's since about 2001/2 and am now on my 2nd pair. I have very fine naturally wavy hair, and use my GHD's daily. The ends do get a little frazzled but I get my hair cut about every 6 weeks. My GHD's are the one thing I could not live without - I even packed them in my hand luggage when I went to Canada just incase my suitcase went astray :lol: I have tried cheaper straighteners and they just don't do the job.

Once you have them, there will be no going back!
 
I used to have long WAVEY hair, why didn't anyone tell me about GHD's? :bonk::bonk::bonk::bang::bang::bang: then i wouldn't have to have got red of it :D
 
I got my two daughters a pair after the constant nagging about how brilliant they are and they wont consider any other type..good points are that they turn themselves off if left on and they straighten like no other also you get a 2 year warranty..bad points are cost and girls fighting over them.
 
Hairdryers make your hair fall out!
