Giottos VT806 Lightweight Tripod £12.59 Del

Looks identical to a Slik one i bought in Thailand last year, cost about £20 but was great for the price and served me well while i was there, i had my D300 with battery grip and 18-200mm lens on it, and it handled it with no problems, saves carrying a Manfrotto around :D

This looks like a right bargain or is it?? im interested in a tripod, but dont know if i "need" one, and i suppose 16 quid is not much to waste now is it? does anyone know of any reviews of it?

I think its exactly the same as the one in this thread

I got one, purely cos it was £12! first time out a mate came along with a low end manfrotto, he was wondering where the extra £70+ was...

To be honest its okay but not brilliant, if you extend the centre column its pretty wobbly, even pressing the shutter button will make it wobble. If you keep the centre column low its ok though. The one I got came in its own bag.
You do need to screw the various adjusters pretty tight as well, or the head moves. Its also not that easy to make small adjustments - might be me but it seems to move about a bit when to tighten up the head, which moves it off where you wanted it.. to try and move it when semi-tight doesnt work either, as it wont move without a good push, then you moved it too far..

If you were going to use a tripod a lot I don't think it'd last that long, but for occasional use go for it.

I'm fairly sure this is the same as my Slik, and for £16 yes it's great value for money, like i mentioned in my previous post i used it with a D300 with battery grip attached and 18-200mm lens and it handled it no problem, i will be taking it on holiday with me again this year, obviously no match for something like a Manfrotto but you wouldn't expect it to be, but for a budget tripod at £16 i doubt if you will get anything better :)

thanks for the feedback.. think i may just order one of these, nothing to loose have i?
