Hi,

I have just purchased a brand new Giottos MTL9251B for £30 and i am now looking for a tilt head. I am looking at a MT5011 tilt head at £40 or the MT5001 at £36, i cant seem to see any diffrence between the two. My questions is are these any better than a ball head and am I limited to only using Giottos heads? Sorry if my questions seem simple but I am new to photography.

If anybody has any experience with this brand your thought would be much appreciated!!:)

I've been using the Giottos kit for the last few months, it's far from the best but it is certainly good value for the money you pay. I was using the 5001 head on both a tripod and a monopod and it's been reasonably stable.

I've recently changed to one of their bigger ball heads, the MH1300-621, this only because I'm now mainly using a larger lens/body combo than before.

Hope this helps.

The 5001 has a higher max capacity in terms of load than the 5011 and also weighs more. It's usually dearer too so I would think you're quoting from different shops but stranger things have happened

Giottos kit is perfectly fine- whether ball head or 3-way is down to personal preference. Many people advocate the use of a 3-way for landscape but there are no hard or fast rules- great landscapes can be taken with a ball head.
I would have worked out the max load of your kit that will be on the tripod and bought from there- your tripod only has a max load of 5kg so it would seem daft to buy a head that takes much more than that. You can use any head as long as the thread size is the same.

Excellent thanks for all your advice. I ended up buying the 5011 for £38. So in total I spent £68 which I think is great. Before I never thought using tripod could make such a big difference in the quality of pictures.
