Gin... Discuss

I discovered G&T only recently. I don't particularly like it... Yet! A friend is really into it. So I can see it has a special place I hadn't seen before. I'm not going to order it in some bar. But I'll hopefully get the opportunity to try some good stuff in some great setting. A sunset. A veranda. And good company who know their gins.

Until then, yuk.

Hendrick's, Opihr, Monkey 47 and Da Mhile are my "go to" gins.

Had a lovely pink peppercorn gin at the gin festival the other month. Will have to look up the name of it.

I've been a big Gin fan for quite a while now. The first thing I'd recommend is dropping the Schweppes Tonic.
I'd seek out a Gin like the below, which is a more delicately flavoured one, and pairing with a 'premium' tonic - I'm a big fan of Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic water, it loses the bitterness of the trad tonic taste, and allows the flavour of the gin to show through.

Can't stand Gin :puke:

Gin has really come about over the past few years, and theres a huge variety of Gins out there to choose from, depending on your tastes.
I find that a gin like Bobbys is worthwhile drinking neat, but my 'go-to' gins are Tanqueray 10, Deaths Door, Bathtub Gin and Whitley Neil (though I enjoy this with a dash of elderflower cordial, Cloudy apple juice, and a sprig of mint)

Add Botanist and Wild Snow Dog ( Portuguese) a Snow dog is lovely with juniper berries and a slice of green apple in it lots of ice. We tend to use Lime rather than lemon for a non fussy G& T and Fevertree tonic is essential, The other thing that's V Important is not to go above 50ml meaures as theres no worse than too much gin in a G&T

Depending on the gin I sometimes find Fevertree has too strong a flavour tbh. Sometimes I actually find a G&T better with a cheap tonic so that you can taste the gin more. When I do use fevertree, it tends to be the naturally low one, as I find it doesn't drown the gin out as much as the normal one.

Will grab one of those next time I buy a bottle :)

Although, I am tempted to just buy a still...

Tried Gin once...... The wife & I were on a wine tasting "experience" at Vinopolis in London.

Once you've done the wine part, you exited via the Bombay Sapphire room where you get to try some samples of Gin and Gin based cocktails..... neither the wife or I will be rushing to do that part again. Really, really didn't like it, however the shot of Absinthe I had in the next room more than made up for the Gin :P

If you get the chance or have any friends or family travelling to Guernsey, ask them to bring you back a bottle of 'Blue Bottle'. Its only distilled and sold on the island (available in Duty Free). I'm not a gin drinker myself, but the many gin drinkers I know absolutely love this stuff.

Tanqueray No.10 & Hendricks are nice. I recently tried Adnams Copper House which is fantastic with a slice of Orange, nice and peppery.

I tried a saffron gin once. I wasn't impressed.
