Gimp + UFRaw = HUGE jpegs

So I guess I have a setting wrong somewhere.

I'd expect the jpegs (after image flatten) to be around 4-6mb. They are coming out around 16-20mb. Apparently at 72ppi... I'd expect that huge file size from 300 ppi...


Current work flow:
Open Gimp
Open Nef file (uses UFRaw plugin)
Tweak as required
Click Save to send to Gimp
In Gimp I usually duplicate the layer, add an unsharp mask (default) and change to either Screen or Overlay 60%.
Save as Gimp
Image Flatten
Save as Jpeg - 100% & best quality.

Since the only thing that has changed is that I've used UFRaw, is there a setting I should be using in Gimp?

I checked the recent images and they state file type : raw data file at the bottom. Even on the jpeg.

Is this the problem? and how to fix it?

You are not being ignored - there will probably be someone who uses Gimp and UFRaw along at some point who can answer your question but I will give it a bump for you

doubt there are that many using this combo.
Had to change quality to 97% to shrink jpeg. Only works on some, others still at 16mb. Only way I can get them to shrink is using the second setting on the compression (usually left at best quality).

Hoping there is an answer as when I process through capture nx it doesn't do this. Same through Elements. But I like the in Gimp flow

I do not know how accurate it is but he equates Photoshop quality 12 (the highest) with Gimp 98. He also says that saving above 98 is not worth it!

Is there any reason why you do not work & sharpen in Capture NX2? or do you have the old Capture NX still?

Working on a laptop away from home... Plus capture nx is pretty slow...

Seen the processing raw from gf3 and its way faster...
