Is it possible to open a new layer in gimp and copy a full existing layer into a new smaller layer, i.e. could I copy a uncropped jpeg that has come from the camera into a new smaller layer and just end up with a smaller version of the full photo.
Or could I copy the middle of the from camera jpeg into a smaller layer as a higher quality alternative to cropping ?
Sorry for the silly questions, I'm very new to editing and trying to find my feet any help would be most welcome.
