Hi all,

Quite new to digital photography (10 months or so), I've been shooting in hi-res j-peg for all my photo's, but I'm now going to shoot in j-peg and RAW at the same time (Canon 5D Mk1), so I've nil experience editing RAW (CR2) files etc...

I use 'FastStone' editing programme for usual cropping/sharpening/contrast/saturation controls etc, but I'm going to require an editing programme to work on RAW files, I was advised the the editing programme 'Gimp' was good, but I no nothing about it, anyone here use it?

Can 'Gimp' editing programme use RAW files I wonder?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

No AFAIK Gimp doesn't support raw. It's not bad, similar-ish to the earlier versions of photoshop, although the interface could be better.

You can get a RAW plugin for Gimp. I've used it. Works fine. It's reminded me to go get it again for the new computer

Canon DPP is probably your best bet. Did you get it on the disc with your camera?

gimp can use ufraw to do the initial import from raw. It's not photoshop although the basics are similar, PS 'recipes' wont be exactly the same. I like it, it does what I want it to, and free.
