Recently downloaded Gimp, for the main use of cloning out stuff. Is the an easier way other than using brush strokes, and trying to match colours. Is there a way to copy and paste an existing colour from one part of an image, to clone over another part of the image?

You can use the clone tool. It looks like a stamp - the type that they use to stamp things in the post office or on your passport.
Select it and then holding the Ctrl key put the point of the arrow cursor at the place you want to clone from and left click. Then move the point of the arrow cursor to where you want to clone to, hold down the left mouse button and paint. Watch the point where you are cloning from and you will see that moving as well.

This may be clearer than my explanation :)

Also try the heal tool. Looks like a yellow plaster. I've never used it for anything large scale but for things like dust spots, a bit of litter or something else minor it's great. You use it the same way as the clone tool but it's dead easy and generally fixes things in a click or two.
