Is there anyone out there who uses a Benro GH1 or GH2? I'm thinking of picking up a gimbal head that can support a nikon 200-400. I've used a very cheap amazon one before and found it to be easy to use and great for telephoto lenses. The GH1 is a side mount, is the GH2 worth the extra? Currently Jessops have the GH1 for £160 and WEX for £290 so quite a bit of difference in the prices. I have noticed a GH2 in the classifieds too so thats a possible option. The lower weight (700g v 1400g) of the GH1 would be useful if its sturdy enough for the 200-400. Opinions on both would be very appreciated.

I have the Gh2 Rob, never had a problem and it works fine.

Use mine with a 500 f4 with or without the 1.4 tc.

I recently bought the GSPAM (SRS have them for £250 on Ebay). I am using it with my FA* 250-600mm and gripped body (a touch over 8KG in total) and it's as solid as a rock.
Looks like I missed them by 2 weeks! I was looking a the GH2 earlier this week for £185 (ex-demo) from SRS mircosystems but they went as I took too long to decide. SRS were selling the GH2 for £229 new earlier this week but they have been removed from the website now.

I can see the benefit of the GH2, if the clamp is accidentally loosen it is still supports it a little. The GH1 side mount would mean it would drop straight out. But then there is the weight saving.

I use the Bieke version of the GH2 with a 500 on it (Sigma) and it's been fine so far.

Well I decided to go with the GH2 in the classifieds and quite impressed. It's bigger than I thought it would be but well built. It's rock solid even when not locked up. I'm happy I went with the heavier GH2 as the side mount would have been more risky to mount the lens on the GH1.

I have a older Beike gimbal but I was never really happy with it, the movement wasn't great and loosening it meant it rocked a bit. Sided by side there is a bit of a difference in size. I may have to post a comparison photo. Price wise the Beike is good for the cost but I was never too happy carrying a 200-400 on it after loosening it up.
