Guys
I’m using a wimberly head with my D850 plus 600mm f4
My wife is using a D500 with the new 500mm PF on a regular ball head and it’s aquard to say the least........ so we’re looking for a gimbal head about half the size of the Wimberly for her to use. Any recommendations would be appreciated
Thanks
Neil

None too sure about half the size but I think @RedRobin mentioned using a Jobo model that was 'smaller' compared to other such gimbals.

What about a Wimberley Sidekick for use with the ballhead (assuming it's one that has a separate panning control)?

I'm using a Benro one with my D500/Sigma 150-600 combo, very nicely balanced.

The jobo junior 3 is about half the weight of the Wimberley.
I bought one just pre-lockdown and haven't had much chance to use it.
It seems fine for my D500 and 500mm PF, but as I said, my experience is very limited.

Another vote for jobu junior , super bit of kit

Looks the same but it is this one

I mounted it for you.

Not a gimbal as such but have you considered the flex shooter? It’s an updated version of the uniqball and has the ability to balance a lens. It’s not exactly a gimbal head as it’s more like a ball head in size but the two balls make all the difference. it’s a smaller and lighter option that could perhaps suit your wife.

Tried one of these at the Photography Show (back when going places was actually a thing) and it seemed like a great piece of kit

Thank you sir. The link I posted was an upgrade from the one you are showing but after reading the reviews I will definitely get the Jobu......... thanks
By the way you have the camera/lens on back to front the arm needs to be on the right hand side.

Flexshooter pro is 680 gms v. 740gms for junior 3.
I tried a uniqball but couldn't get on with it. Now sold.

Subsidiary question.
Do you use a levelling head with the gimbal?
