I've just got a film camera from a relative and since I get photo passes I thought that along with my SLR I could shoot a few frames a gig on this compact that I've just got...just as an experiment to see what happens really!

But I was wondering what ISO film to get? I originally thought something like 3200 or 1600 and I know it does depend where you shoot (lighting and such) but I thought I'd ask for opinions first as I have no idea as I only shot my first roll like 2 weeks ago! It would be black and white film if that makes any difference.

Ah right, didn't see that! Cheers.

Just another q. though, at this venue i'm shooting at I was taking photos from 400 - 800 ISO on digital so should I go for 1600 or 3200?

Why do you want to use ASA/ISO 1600 or 3200 film if ISO 400 - 800 works well with a digital camera?

If the apertures available on the compact are similar to your DSLR, then I would say you can stick with 400 or 800, but if your using a fast lens on your DSLR (F1.8 or 2.8 for instance) then you will need to go for ISO 1600 film or higher to keep the shutter speed up enough to hand hold your shots.

So say for instance you where shooting at ISO 800 F2.8 with your DSLR but the compact is only F4 and up.. then to match the shutter speed you will really need to use ISO 1600 film
