Gig photography

Any luck checking the photos out Richard?

The 7D can cope with gig photography, but you WILL get noise at 3200+. That's not a problem in itself if you learn to process the images properly. This set was shot with a mixture of 7D/5D at 3200 using a Canon EFS 17-55 on the 7D and Sigma 70-200 2.8 on the 5D: http://www.kennyswan.dk/galleries.php?gallery=Live Music&image_set=Inouwee

and this one was shot using mostly the 7D at 6400 due to the lighting with the Canon lens from the pit and Sigma from the crowd.http://www.kennyswan.dk/galleries.php?gallery=Live Music&image_set=Clutch

Once you learn how to post-process, the 7D will suit you fine but I'd still take the 5DmkII over it for IQ.
