Gig Help

I've been invited to shoot some band shots at a charity gig in a local club tomorrow night (Friday 2 November). Never tried this type of indoor photography before and was wondering if someone could pass on any info re camera and flash settings, iso, shutter speeds, F stop's etc.

I have no idea what the lighting will be like in the place. I don't think it'll be overly dark as a lot of disabled people will be attending along with their carers etc.

I'll be using Canon 350D and the lenses I intend to take are - Sigma 15-30mm EX DG, Sigma 105mm EX DG and Canon 28 - 135mm IS USM.

Unforunately I've only got a second hand Jessops (A400??) Canon dedicated bounce+swivel flash.

I'd be looking to take whole band shots (8 members in one band hence 15-30mm lens) as well as individual musicians.

Seen some quality band pics on here, just hoped someone could pass on some tips so I don't make a total t** of my self.

I'm at work at the moment so won't be able to answer any queries until after 10pm.

As posted in previous threads, try:
ISO 400
Manual mode
Shutter @ 1/30th
Aperture wide open.
No flash
I have the 28-135 IS lens and it works well in these conditions.

Thanks for the assistance. I'll try the settings you suggested and probably mess about with others. Pretty impressed with your shots in the link. It's given me an idea of angles etc. Cheers it's greatly appreciated.

I agree with Dino F, whenever i photograph gigs i try to use the stage lights as much as possible. Also take advantage of any periods of bright white light that are usally used in the lighting setups.
If its a small gig you will be able to move around alot and go for some low angled shots i like to get right down low or up high at small gigs if possible try out some inventive angles that can't be done at larger gigs

Just want to say I did my first gig shot (Going along to a band my dad liked) with the 50mm 1.8, was a lot of fun, I was able to be right at the front, but not really move from my spot.

If its okay in tread, I'd like to ask about processing them, mostly noise removal, I've been trough them all on Lightroom, choosing the ones I want, so now I have a set of Raw untouched files waiting to be worked on.

Cheers guys. Unfortunately, I had a look of the venue today and I think the lighting will be c**p. Unless the bands take their own lights I'll be stuck with dimmable roof fittings.:thumbsdown: Hmmmmmm!!!!!

As for processing them for noise reduction, I'll just be using the Noisware Community free download.
