I upgraded my camera a couple of weeks ago and yesterday I used the camera for the first time properly shooting horses. I found it ok but at one point whilst taking a photograph of a horses head, it was just really not focussing. I done one earlier and it was fine. Other than that I got some great shots but obvs not as happy as I would have liked them to be. I'm meeting up with my boss who is going to show me it properly, but it's nice to ask people on the forum aswell.

What problems are you having with the autofocus? It has more options than the 400 but I've always found it very intuitive are you full autofocus, group or singlepoint?

If you are having problems with the AF not focusing quite where you thought it would have a look.

HERE

You have not described your problem in detail but I think this is at the root of most of the "my 7D isn't focusing properly" posts, I'm sure it was for me until I realised what was going on.

I had not realised the AF points strayed quite so far from the square.

Try SPOT AF see if that helps.
