Getting to Bruges

I thought I'd surprise the other half with a short break to Bruges (nothing in it for me photographically of course ;) )

As we live in Gloucestershire any ideas on the best mode of transport

1) Take the car through the tunnel but what's the car parking situation like ?

2) Fly - could conceivably make Bristol, Southampton, Coventry or Brum as departure airports

3) Train all the way - not certain though if this will be the most expensive

Any other suggestions please welcomed

TIA

Andrew

What about a mini cruise? Not sure where they sail from but last time I went was with P&O ferries from Hull.

Nice idea but she's not the greatest sailor in the world :shake:

She won't be awake for most of it, we did this last easter, drive to hull, park for free, get on the boat which sails at roughly 5.30pm, eat, walk about on the deck, there's a cinema, bar, bingo, casino, disco (we paid for all the buffet meals as well which are very good)then go to bed, when you wake up you're almost in Zeebrugge, get on the provided coach which is about a 20 min trip then you're in Bruges

It's about a 5-10 min walk from the coach station to the centre of the city, you're there for about 9.30am, you can either stay overnight(depending what you've booked) or the coach picks you up at 5.30pm then you do the same trip in reverse.

We had a great weekend when we did it :)

It is easy to park in Bruges.

Also you could stay in Brussels and get the local train.

That is what we did last time.

Thanks for that - I want to stay in Bruges & the fact that car parking is easily available may have clinched taking the car (I can bring back more beer than if we flew!!). From those that have been how many days do I ideally need before you feel that you've "done everything"

If you go straight onto the "Duvel" about one
:gag::gag::gag:;)

Two or three days should see you fine.
Bruges is a lovely town, but there are only so many chocolate shops you can look at.
I've been there quite a few times on the bike (motorbike, it's too far to pedal) and there are some really nice restaurants in the main square.
Lots of narrow streets to explore and some wonderful old buildings.
I have never been on a photographic expedition, just purely for fun with mates or the wife.
But it is well worth the trip.
You couldn't call into Adenkirke for me on the way home and get me a few pouches of Samson could you? :D:D:D

If you go by sea the bars open as soon as you park the car at Hull , you're not driving for 3 days so no need to worry about having a drink :)
