Getting shot in the ass...

Careless parents. Serves them right to get shot in the ass for not watching their kid. Nothing to do with gun's, just irresponsible parents. The kid could have done the same but with a knife, pepper spray, a wooden spoon etc etc

Totally agree....but as a country they really do need to rethink gun law.....I would rather get hit in the ass with a wooden spoon;)

Indeed if the law was less lenient towards carrying weapons everywhere it probably wouldn't have happened. I own several high powered rifles capable of shooting over a mile and two kids, never had an accident yet :)

The ratio of guns to the population of the US is just crazy.

Likewise, I grew up with weapons in the family but they never were carried in public etc.......and certainly never left that a child could get their hands on them......

To be honest IF America stopped selling guns tomorrow there are so many in circulation I doubt it would have any effect at all. As for getting Americans to surrender the guns they already own, well good luck with that one.

Americans will not give up their guns. They have a very right wing or far right wing view on most things. I have discussed this many times with Americans. They do not accept the statistics that more guns in the publics hands leads to greater gun deaths (not all from crime). They think they need more guns in circulation.
Their news programmes appear to over play everything almost intentionally keeping them thinking they are going to be attacked any time now by an IS army (or gays, blacks, communists or librals).
They do not even accept that a simple license system can be employed to stop criminals and psychiatric patients can't wqlk in to a store and buy what they want

If only they were as passionate about global warming, third world starvation and peace as they about guns the world would be a much nicer place.

Surely for a 2 or 3 yo to be able fire a handgun deliberately or accidently infers the trigger pull pressure is way too low???

I grew up around guns

22 rifles, various 12 bore from modern over and under to classy side by side and even some old vintage hammer actions.

From memory they were always kept out of reach but the 410 was there for us to use as kids just like the air rifles. Bonkers when I think back to what we did.

I remember the change to the gun laws - my dad fitting metal cabinets (which had to be screwed down) and after that it was guns only for my brother who was a game keeper at the time.

Long after I left home - I was sad to hear the older hammer action guns (from my Grandad) were taken to the police station when they had an amnesty. Probably crushed or sawn up which was a shame.

Amazingly talented toddler. I remember my first attempt with a handgun. Couldn't get the "safety" off, no bullit was loaded, and the trigger was hard to pull, very hard.

What kind of perceived danger is that family in to leave a handgun in that state in a handbag. That is the really interesting question to me.

Probably no danger and no need for it at all. She probably has it for a fashion accessory. I've seen quite a few tv shows about gumsmiths in the US and the amount of woman that want pink sparkly guns is just unreal. "oh this one is so cute, oh my god! Can I have it in pink with diamond encrusted grip?"... Facepalm!

Actually thinking about it now I can't really talk. I've gotten the airbrush out on most of my rifles to give them a nice camouflage look, I even used real leaves and shrubs as stencils to give nice detail, but I don't exactly call them cute or fashionable.

My point was more that why the mum stored her gun in the handbag with the safety catch off and a bullit loaded. I would only carry it like that if I was in imminent danger. Unless the toddler did that all whilst trying to take his iPad out ;)

Chances of USA changing gun laws. Probably less than nil:-

"I'll give you my gun when you pry (or take) it from my cold, dead hands" - A phrase popularised by the National Rifle Association and other groups.

I would not care to see the UK go the way of America in respect of gun ownership. Apart from that I am quite content to leave Americans to do what they think fit in America. It's their country - not mine.
