Hi,

Like many i'm fed up seeing pixelated results of the images i upload to facebook. i've tried 960 on the longest edge at 300dpi from lightroom but still see poor results at times...noticeably around eyes.

Any tips on how to stop facebook screwing images ?

tia,
Mike.

As I understand it, 2048 at 96dpi is another 'standard' size that should suffer from fewer compression arefacts. Might be worth trying a range of jpg compression levels on your own computer first, since I suspect it will do a better job compressing than facebook's algorithms.

"dpi" is irrelevant... that's print resolution. Facebook will resize and re-compress large files. The only way around it is to find out what size Facebook resizes to, and resize to this exact size yourself before uploading.

I tend to use 1200 pixel on the longest side for facebook. Always seem ok when I do it.

Also... big files will be compressed by Facebook more than small files. So it will probably try to keep resolution intact first by adding compression. Ironically, try uploading smaller files that need less compression, as that may well keep the pixelated look to a minimum.
