Had a quick look on search around, but is photobox one of the better places to get A4 prints done?

Or are there any cheaper better deals out there?

I have used Photobox in the past as well as Boots who, to be honest, do a very good job in my opinon - at least the Manchester store does. Photobox have always done a good job for me too although for the one off, the postage tends to make the exercise rather expensive although I pass this on to whoever I am printing for. Hope this helps a bit but suspect it may not do!

I use photobox alot. Their calendars are great and general print quality is good.

I personally would never touch Photobox. They are dark and flat, their paper is not very nice, and their colours are not good.

It depends what you are using it for of course, and if its 'happy snaps' and bulk orders then Photobox are great for general service and price, as they are so cheap and quick.

But if you are looking for better results for something that looks more pro-am/pro or its a special occasion you are printing for, then there are some really good pro labs out there that would do a much better job for not much more money.

I would reccomend this company if you want a large bulk order pro results at cheaper price: http://www.proamimaging.com/

And this company for quality: http://www.loxleycolour.com

If I want a really special result, and for all my portrait/studio work, I use a fine art printer.

My tips to get a better result from every printer: - always choose satin matt/lustre finish, and invest in a screen calibrator/monitor calibrator, as you won't ever be able to get decent results without a callibrated screen.

Photobox are not flexible in their sizes, I wanted a panoramic print, 30in x 8in but they said they can only do the sizes that are on their website. Togsprint have said they can do custom sizes, price was very reasonable too, so they now have my custom.

My vote goes to DS Colour Labs or Togsprint. Both reasonably priced, both very efficient and both very good quality.

Another vote for DScolourlabs.

:plusone:

I just need a screen calibration thingy as my screen is too bright and my prints come off a little dark so have to try compensate for that
Thats my problem though, not a problem with DSCL

I found Photobox to be dark too !

And as Frank mentioned, custom size restrictions make them not very user friendly either. They are OK for the average home/point and shoot user I suppose. But I wont be going back to them.

EDIT.......

Bit off topic here but....How come Photobox in my and a couple of other posts in this thread are showing as links but, not in others ? I didn't enter it as a link, just plain text !!

Quite a few of the places mentioned in this thread don't do A4 prints...

I shopped out a load of A4 prints before Xmas to see who gave the best quality and service. The service from photobox was great, but the quality was poor. Loxley I couldn't order from work because you needed to download software, DSCL I gave up on as couldn't order A4 prints on a Mac, then when I tried on a PC I couldn't have Matte and glossy on the same order, so would have had to do 2 orders (both meeting the minimum spend). In the end it was a local pro lab (One Vision Imaging) that came up with the goods, great quality print and service.

Will never touch photobox again, disapointing dark results. It happens far to often to far to many people for it to be just down to user error or porley calibrated screens.

Really? I have ordered Glossy and Lustre in the same order before

Thats how it seemed anyway, it would only let me select matte or glossy for the whole order, after having faffed about getting onto a PC to get to that stage in the first place it was enough for me to not bother using them...

Maybe you should look at giving them a try again mate, the service and prints are worth it

I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds this. A number of times I've felt the quality isn't as good as it could be despite photobox getting seemingly endless praise on forums. I'll be trying an alternative next time - I haven't got time to be faffing about with unreliable service.

Hmm - photobox print on slightly flimsy card but the print quality has been good when we've used them - I must have had over 1000 different photos printed by them.

I've never had a problem with photobox, but they can be pricey. I tried DSColourlabs on the recommendation of here just last week because of the price of their 15x 10's, but despite using their profiles the prints came out dark, i.e. dark browns came out black etc.

Sent the same shots off to photobox and they came out fine.
