Getting photos published

Hi. Anyone got any good advice for getting work published?

I have emailed local free magazines but not replied and tried looking online for local adverts for photos etc, but no joy. Even thou am a amatuer photographer to begin with its just a away to get my work noticed more. Also does anyone know any good places to check for people looking for certain types of photos?

Or are you asking if they will commission you for an event / article?

You're unlikely to 'get noticed more' as usually they won't publish your name with pictures and people are unlikely to look you up even if they do.

so even thou nice to get published you will probably get noticed more via forums and online sharing .

What are you meaning by getting noticed?...truth be told if you want people viewing an commenting on your photos most of what you need to do is social network and do it well and consistently, content posted and updated daily if boy multiple times a day, across all the main platforms, so that's Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, et al

Everything I've sold for use in magazines and books has come as the result of queries to my website. However, it's quite specialised and in some cases unique, so it's not like anyone can go and replicate the shots. Writers often have a set budget for photographs, which they will either keep and take their own, or do a google search for something appropriate. I guess one approach would be to start writing articles that you can illustrate yourself?

The other approach is to submit to the photography comics who nearly all have sections for readers photographs. You'll have to be proactive as they won't approach!

First try your local paper, this has always worked for me though the subject was specialised ie local wildlife. Submit to competitions, again this has lead to requests for my photos through this. Give these a go and i'm sure as long as your work is good enough then you will start to get noticed. Be consistent and update your work frequently.
