Hi All,

I attended a "Lets Get digital" photo workshop on Saturday. The part one course aimed at getting your camera off of auto. THe focus was on using aperture priority. It was really good. The format of the workshop was well presented, easy to follow and well worth the £80 fee. I covered camera settings, aperture, exposure control, focal points, white balance and loads of useful tips.

I learned far more in the 6 hours I was there than in months of reading the manual and books on the subject. And I produced a couple of really satisfying photos using the tecniques taught.

I've already booked myself on the part 2 "shutter priority" for February.

f you are struggling and want to do a bit more with your camera try one.

Cheers to All
Peter

Sounds like it was money well spent in your case Peter, hope you learn enough to satisfy what you want to do with your photography. I've been searching around locally for a good course to attend but I've recently forced myself to start shooting in manual as I was happy with AV and TV.
I never shoot in auto unless I'm using a flashgun and then I'll only take 1 shot to compare what my shots look like to the auto setting. I'm generally happier with my results than the cameras.

If ever there was a time to use manual it would be with your flashgun as auto settings can let the shutter speed drop quite low resulting in unwanted motion blur. P mode is quite good though, as it will not let the shutter drop below 1/60th - last time I checked anyway

The day with Lets get digital certainly gave me a lot of confidence and understanding. I haven't progressed on to a flashgun yet. But so far I'm happy. Took this one today.

Hi Peter, welcome to TP. As someone who is both short on experience and understanding of digital photography, and very very close to you , could you point me in the direction of the course and venue. I would be very interested in attending..... Oh, the photograph is great.

Cheers

I'm booked in for a similar course at the end of the month at the Photography Studio in Newcastle. Hope I get as much out of it as you did, like you say, you can read books all day long but there is nothing like being shown first hand.

Hi Peter

Thank you so much for the link. I have been looking at some of the availability and venues and I have to say it looks very promising. I like the idea of perhaps using or looking at the Windsor venue as that is more to my liking. If I do book up and attend I willl be sure to let you know how I got on :bonk:
