Hi all

I've been doing quite a bit of researching on DSLR's & which is to be my 1st. Well i went from D60 to EOS 1000D & now i have decided to go one better & get a 450D:woot:. Thing is i could get a few xtra's for my £££ if i go 1000D but i'll still be wanting a 450. Anyhow i've decided to wait until boxing day hoping that i'll get it in the sale (assuming jessops have a sale??) but i want it NOW!!! I think i'm making the right & best decision.

Well let me know how you get on, i'm trying to make a very simular decision at the moment! I also really want a camera now, but will wait for sales if i can't decide soon!!!!

:D

Hi and welcome to the forum! :)

I didn't think Jessops have Boxing Day sales on DSLRS, perhaps it will be confirmed in subsequent posts.

The 450D is a nice camera though to get you stated, then of course there's the slippery slope of 'L' lenses :suspect: You only have to go through threads that mention lenses and you'll be pretty much guaranteed 'L' series lenses will get a mention :)

Anyway, enjoy! DSLRS open up a whole new world in terms of photography :)

Don't it just, i'm quite amazed at all this raw stuff & it's great to have so much more controll over the prints. Well if people are 100% positive they don't have any sales over the xmas period then i'll get it sooner. New years to late as i need it for NYE. As it's my 1st will it take long to get going & taking good pics?

They did last year, the D300 price was slashed £100 on Boxing Day, which was a bit annoying as I bought mine on 23rd December

Having said that, last year they offered online discounts on dslrs, this year that has all stopped

£100 gutted eh. I think then i will still wait then as it's a strong possibility.

I couldn't wait and ended up buying a 450d from Jacobs last Saturday. £379 plus £50 Canon cashback, and i'm over the moon with it!

Thats a link to your shopping basket, which is empty! I know what you mean about the wait though, I've just bought a 450D, only problem is it was sent home so I've still got a week and a half till I'm back from uni and get a play!

order on line - use 10PLUS10 coupon, and select collect at store (you actually pay at the shop, but you enter card details as a security measure)

Was £ 555 now £ 529.60

Plus there is the £50 cashback from Canon which IIRC expires in the New Year, which makes it £ 479.

Coupon expires 10th Dec.

There may be a sale on, but will the sale match this offer + cashback?

I'm going through the exact same decision, whther to wait or not.

1. Cause I want one now!!! No reason, I just want. hehe :D
2. Will prices get better. Well, this Boots offer might be as good as it gets I think.

You can get the 450D for approx £300 with a offer listed at the bottom of this thread. I'm thinking of going for that, as I can't see even post xmas offers getting much lower than that.

: Sorry we are now out of stock of this product

However, it does say "Stock coming soon". Hopefully before the offer ends on 15th

I got it!!

I went to jessops yesterday & got a 450D with 18-55 lens, a Tamron 70-300 'macro', a spare battery, a sandisk ultra2 4GB & an 8GB, a pack of screen protection covers for £500 (after cash back). The discounts & the bundle price brought the Tamron down to £48. I decided to get it all now as i couldn't risk not getting all this at that price on boxing day.
1st impressions,, WOW!! things have sure moved on a long way since my Praktica bc1;). I had a little play with it last night & a read & i've got lots to learn. All in all i'm VERY HAPPY:D

Doubt it. They'll have seen their sales of this product go sky high. They've pulled what stock they have and will let the voucher lapse. They've wised up.

I called them up today, they contacted suppliers and confirmed they will not be getting any more in. Despite it saying "Stock coming soon". :(

Nice one P4ddy! I'm close to breaking too, and just getting one. I've 95% decided that I'll get the 450D, rather than the 1000D. Now I've decided that, I've encountered the world of lenses!!! lol

Thanks, i think i'll be getting a flash next as i have 2 lenses now already;)

The boots one keeps coming back into stock as my mate ordered one last night. Got my 450d yesterday, and loving it! Just need to learn how to use the dang thing now!

Damn really!? I've been checking it for what feels like every 20-30 minutes for the last 2 days. :(

aye, keep plugging away on the refresh button! Not sure WHY they keep restocking it?! Surely they must notice they're selling it at a loss?! But better for us lowly paid, wannabe togs!

The wait is killing me too, I have to wait for my 450D.
Its in the house but wrapped up for Christmas, though I was given the battery so I could charge it and the software and manual.
I wanted to go for the twin is lens deal from WEX, but ended up just getting the camera with a crumpler pretty boy xxxl bag and memory card, as thought it might be best to see what I wanted out of the camera before I bought another lens.
So I have been to a lot of reading online, but just want to get my hands on the camera...

Snap!! (no pun intended) I can use P & that does everything ok for my initial indoor snaps so far whilst fiddling with it. I just tried installing the software & although it loaded my computer wont let me open any new programes. My phoenix flight sim (yep i'm an rc heli addict) wont run either?.

Heh, been using Tv tonight to take pics of the moon with the kit lens. discovered that 1/800 was somewhat better than a 30 sec exposure for a moon shot! Shame its only a 55mm kit lens. really want zoom!!

Oh and just checked. boots are still out of stock.

I think i'll try that out now with my 300mm tamron:D

Just stuck it out the window & got the moon at 1/160 5.6 iso400 & although it's not crisp (hand held) when i zoom in to the max i can see so much of the moon.

enjoy it, all all the learning thats involved with DSLR's.

the camera itself it the cheapest bt, just wait until you get addicted to fast lenses lol

Well it's a good job my other half is taken an interest aswell then so she'll understand when i say we need so & such that costs £££££'S

even better for you then.you can then put in a case to get a new lens and pass on your old ones  (if you so choose)
