Hey guys,

I've done some photos for someone and she's trying to get them printed online. It says that the images aren't high enough resolution and that they need to be at least 1mb. The images are around the 620kb mark. Can anyone explain what this is about and how I can fix it for the future please?

Thanks in advance!

Is that small? I've checked some other images that I haven't touched and they some out at that size. The images need to be at least 1mb for whichever site that she's using.

Let's start at the beginning, what camera are you using?

I've just looked. It might be my save settings in raw. Had it on Quality 8 at High. Changed it to 10 and Maximum. Might be just a schoolboy error. I use a Nikon d5000, process in cs4. I'll let you know how I get on.

Are you saving as a jpg?

I am. Or was. Just saved as tif. Another error probably. I generally save as jpeg. Is this completely wrong? They soon bulk up the space on a folder when saved as tif.

If you are sending it to someone for printing them jpg is possibly the best format.

Next question, what print size are you sending her? 7x5, 8x6, 10x8?

What are the dimensions of the shots in pixels?

The file size in kb is not directly related to the number of megapixels in the image as it also depends on the "quality" (jpeg compression) it has been saved with.

Sorted in terms of image size after saving as tif. When handing over a cd full of hundreds of images, doesn't it become impractical to be saving as tifs?

The dimensions in pixels are 2828 x 4288. If that's what you were asking?

are you saving to web or are you emailing them full size?

I've put them on a disc full size and I'm dropping them off. Is it best to save as tiff, then reduce image size and save as jpeg if emailing?

I followed that (ashamed to admit that I never put anything in the pixel dimensions box when cropping). The image went from 1.14mb to 892.9kb when saved as Quality 10 Maximum. How does that sound?

Can you save it as quality 12?

Hi, I've started to save as quality 12. Didn't know I could manually input that.

Thanks a lot for the help. Really appreciated. Think I've ironed out the creases a little now anyway.
