Some idiot has decided to, during the night, pour gloss black paint on my car. The police (scientific police at that :geek:) said its deffo black gloss and the only thing that will remove it is white spirit.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Its metallic paint on the car btw.

Thanks in advance.

Sarah

scum bags who ever they are. sorry i have no idea maybe ring a couple of garages?

Once it's dried, white spirit won't touch it. You could try making a dam out of plasticine around a small splodge of it and soaking it with white spirit but don't expect a miracle. A body shop might come up with a better solution but it may be a case of waiting for the paint to cure completely then picking it off with fingernails or cocktail sticks.

If its fully hard I think you are going to wind up looking at a respray

freind of mines ex painted 'tart' on the side of her car (charming chap - I wound up 'reasoning' with him about his behaviour :boxer:, but thats a long story and not germane) with gloss paint - White spirit didnt help, acetone thinners and steel wool got the gloss off , but it also trashed the paint work underneath.

If its just one panel the cost shouldnt be too bad (and may not be worth troubling the insurers about), on my freinds car scum bag ex had painted across part of the wing ,the door and the end panel - respray was horrifically expensive- also if its an older car it might be cheaper to get a matching bonnet from a scrap yard and swap them

one possible thing is if it isnt fully set yet - a lot of paints take about 8 hours to completely go off - a pressure wash/steam wash 'might' get it off - we did that succesfully when some dimwit dripped paint allover the roof of my car while painting the building it was parked next too.

Why do people do such horrible things to others? Its cruel, it's my car, no one elses but they have to go and ruin it :(

new bonnet from scrapyard is probably your way forward.

Its because they are ****wits sarah - assuming theres nobody with a grudge against you, its the same sort of mentallity who think its funny to smash bottles all over the road, snap ariels etc - a tin of gloss is an odd item for a random hoodrat to be carrying tho.. most of them think paint only comes in aerosols

Nothing that wouldn't take the paint and lacquer coats with it. Modern car paints are water based and pretty hopeless. Bird poo fetches them off.

Better spending the money on a security cam to keep an eye on the car. Then you make the little **** pay for the damage..

Keep an eye out over the next two nights. They'll be back to survey what they've done and gloat over it.

spot on - though the difficulty is in proving the nastly little scrotes did it.

That's always been the case, bird guano is highly acidic, it was common in the 70s to see metallic cars with big patches of the original primer showing through, where the topcoat had been lifted straight off by droppings.

Maybe it was done by a Nikon owner?

Seriously though, you wont get it off with White spirit. The only way now is to have it rubbed down and re sprayed. If you cant do that yourself then get a good firm to do it. Sorry about the hassle it has caused you.

I'd not seen that before I had a car resprayed. Bloody birds ruined the paint. I even washed off the poo as soon as I saw it. Can't have been on long. Was fresh black paint which is really soft.

They'd bomb my old car and it wouldn't seem to show.

It doesn't take long to harm the paint, I have a couple of reaction marks on my car that were the result of bird droppings lying on it for three weeks whilst I was out of the country :bang:

Think its going to be too late now to do anything to get it off without damaging the paint below as others have said:thumbsdown:

How about we all come to yours tonight & hide in your garden hoping the little ******s show up so we can teach them a lesson from the university of life!

Why do people do such horrible things to others?(

Sadly it's because they only have the capacity to destroy and deface, no ability to be positive and constructive. What goes around comes around, you maybe will never know about it but their come-uppence will occur at some stage.
Feel sorry for your trouble and hope it can be resolved without too much hassle, though I have to say that any DIY attempts to remove it might only make things worse :(

the definitive TP meet - the day that we all :bat: :boxer: 'd some little scrotes, then got arrested together

Depending on the type of car it sounds like a new bonnet in teh right shade is the way forward. For a relatively common car it would probably be the cheapest way (save getting it off with abrasives....).

How bad is the actual damage? From experience I know that you can clean overspray and other paint off a car using cellulose thinners, assuming the car itself hasn't been painted recently, safely if you're careful/know what you're doing.

Ultimately, if the bonnet is going to need painted or replaced anyway there's no harm in trying to clean it with thinners or white spirit....

Had a bit of a google and a hot jet wash is mentioned as one way. Might be able to lift up the edges of the paint so it comes off. Also intensive tar remover and clay detailing bar might also help but it needs to be done asap. It might already be too late as the paint must have hardened by now.

If you try white spirit then test an area first that can't be seen. But make sure you can polish it back up to normal as you don't want a dull patch.

If you're incredibly careful a razor blade could be used to scrape it off but you'd have to be a surgeon!

Reckon a replacement bonnet is the best way to go and wax the hell out of it so anything put on the car has less chance of adhering in future.

I had spray paint over my bonnet/ doors etc a few years ago. I rang around and as it got taken to a local place within 48 hours or so they were able to get all the paint off without a respray. they said it hadn't hardened in that time and well it scrubbed up fine. Best bet is to ring around a few local places asap and see what they say

Just an update, the paint hadn't dried, looks like I got the last half of the paint judging by the amount of extra sludge was on there - we used white spirit because if the bonnet was to go then trying white spirit wasn't gonna harm my chances. It thankfully come off after a couple of hours of my uncle and I carefully softening it. Took some real care though, thought it had left buff marks but my dad has used some Mer on it and it looks okay at the moment. Thankyou for all your help :)

if the mer doesnt work get yourself some autoglym paint renovater, i used it on my front bumper when a bus scraped against it and it got all the red off of grey metalic paintwork.
it may take a couple of attempts but it's brilliant stuff!!
