My wife's dropped her iPhone and now has a crack in the screen. She hasn't got any insurance, so can anyone recommend a place that replaces the screens?

Which iPhone; 3G, 3GS, 4?
Is it the screen that's broken, or just the glass outer?

For the iPhne 3G & 3GS, both parts can be bought on eBay and are fairly trivial to replace.
Not sure about availability for iPhone4 stuff yet though.

Apple will do it if you take it into the apple store. Dunno how much it is though.

I replaced the screen on my 3gs after getting knocked off my bike and the iPhone coming off the worst from the whole experience, bought parts off eBay which included all the tools for taking it apart and removing the broken screen, took about 20 mins all in, one tip after I restarted my screen it was completely black and I thought it hadn't been successful, just do a hardware reset hold sleep and home button for 10 seconds and phone will light back up

There are videos out there already showing how to strip it out to change the screen, trouble is of course you'll void Apples warranty so if something else goes wrong you're stuffed!

I'm waiting a while with my cracked screen to see if anything else goes wrong with it, especially with the luck I'm having at the moment!

I repaired my grand daughters ipod. very easy to do.
There are many tuts on YouTube. Sending it back to Apple will cost an arm and a leg.
If you do decide to do it yourself, make sure you get the inner bezel, you can't get the old one off without breaking it.
I think the total for parts was about £20.
Good luck.

Cheers all, will have a look on eBay. I think Apple charge around £160, you can get places online that do it for £40-£50 but if I can do it myself then all the better.

It's a 3G, not sure exactly what's cracked as I haven't seen it yet, but assume it's just the outer screen.

if it's an iPhone 4, the screen just slides off with 2 screws. 3GS is a bit more complicated, either send it back to apple to fix or DIY from ebay or something

i fixed my 8Gig 3G using a kit off ebay. Easy enough job and still works fine today. Only thing that i have noticed is that a little bit of dust has managed to get in.When i fixed it, i had to heat up a little black sleeve that the original glass was attached too. i went a little bit hot and only slightly bent it but this allows things to get under the digitalizer.

You can pick up the sleeve for about 4 quid extra on ebay, and if i was going to do it again, i would buy one to save having to take the smashed glass off it.
