A looong time ago, I saw a gadget that let you plug an external drive into a DSLR, so that you could copy/download to that storage, I think it even had a small monitor screen.
(I could also be imagining that)
Is anyone aware of a gadget now, that would let you copy image files via WiFi to an external WiFi enabled disk? Or any other method NOT using a PC/Laptop ( travel weight is an issue.
Thanks.

This keeps cropping up.

It seems that the devices are no longer available, but a couple of suggestions I have seen use a phone and USB hub and another built with an Arduino.

Might give you some things to search for

The NewQ Filehub AC750 might fit the bill. It's essentially a portable wireless router with built in SD slot that allows you to connect external drives to it. You could connect an external SSD or USB drive to it, and connect to the router/storage from your camera. Most of the reviews I've seen use it for backing up SD cards, and you can then accesss the backup from your phone via wifi.

There are a number of very cheap or free alternatives, which pretty much killed off that type of device.

The majority of Android phones / tablets will allow you to connect to a Camera or card reader via USB to transfer images to them (the same may well be the case with Apple devices).
A number of cameras now support wireless transfer directly (my Sony A7iv can send images wirelessly using FTP, for example) - either to your phone/tablet, or to a server half way around the world!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll do some more accurate investigation now.

This was a popular storage item many moons ago, was very slow at the time so would be extremely dire now.

Epson P-6000

If you own an Android phone which has a USB-C connector, then just use a powered USB-C multi port/SD card reader/ hub and an SSD . The hub is very cheap from Amazon.
I use to power the hub from a Powerbank. I've been using this successfully for a couple of years now.
