As Summer rolls around I start my perennial quest to involve myself in as many outdoors activities as possible - the more "far out" (and inexpensive) the better. I come here knowing most of you are outdoorsy folks and so will undoubtedly have some cracking suggestions for me. If it helps, I'm within easy access of the Peak District if anyone has recommendations for original activities out there.

I'm already footballing, boxing, playing tennis, fell running, walking and bouldering so new suggestions please.

Barbecue????????

We're already three barbecue's into the summer. :naughty:

I wouldn't mind making it out of the summer alive. But nice suggestion, extreme stuff like that is right up my alley.

Go Karting

Good suggestion - we all went go karting a month ago for a mate's birthday and loved it. Only problem is, it's indoors.

A few weeks ago on Countryfile, Matt (the former Blue Peter presenter) did something where you run down waterfalls and crags, jumping into pools and such. He did it in the Lakes but I'm sure there will be somewhere similar more local to me - does anyone recollect/know what it's called? Activities like that are what I'm aiming at. :help:

Extreme base jumping. IT's like regualr base jumping but without the parachute

gorge walking?

Didn't think of that. We have one nearby, a 470m track for £35 per driver. Is that reasonable?

Depends how long you get on track. £35 is good for about 25-40 minutes worth of driving time depending on where you go. Some of the 'bigger' circuits (as in, well known) with msa licenses will charge more than the less corporate like kart tracks who dont have msa licenses. Not to say thats the only difference, loads of different variables weigh up the costs the circuits charge!

:)

pub walking, its like hill walking but you go to a pub in the country then walk around the ar park a bit then have lunch

Yes!

It seems gorge walking/scrambling is exactly what I'm after. Thanks very much.

Now, for the rest of you, any more suggestions?

i did gorge walking many years ago when i was in scouts, it was brilliant fun.

what about whitewater rafting (whcih is also seriously good fun)
or powerkiting (buggying, boarding, surfing etc - there are various places which will teach people to kite surf, i think 2days of tuition and you can get your certificate (which is required to hire gear i believe - because obviously its dangerous if done incorrectly)
