Took a couple of snaps of my friends dog when at Loch Ard and she has now asked if I would have one printed for her ! ARGH!...

When it is for me that is ok but to be asked not sure what to do?

These are the two she likes below.

The first do you think I would need to clone out the tree behind the dog.

The second one i tried to straighten but thought I may lose too much detail at the bottom of the dog?

Any ideas please fire them at me!

I'm not sure what the first one would look like with the tree cloned. It is distracting but not sure what you'd be left with if you took it out. The second image seems much stronger. I don't think you need to straighten it though. The angle looks natural enough and if you straighten it, the trees in the background might look odd. Are you able to recover any sky detail from the raw file?
 
I'm with gad-westy that the second image is the better of the two but still needs some detail in the sky.
Would also suggest, for next time, that you try to get the dog looking more towards the camera, as the cocked head to me is making him look a wee bit jolly dimple. If you ask your friend to stand right behind you with his ball, or other toy, held high above their head to grab his attention you'll get a better look on his face. (if he's one of the weird ones that isn't interested in toys you can always try a biscuit!) :)
 
I have just been into Lightroom to try with the raw file but there truly is no sky it was very early and loads of mist that morning.

I see what you mean about him looking at me you are so right but i was not thinking of any for print..lol! only have two with him looking at me here is one but only a head shot.

Did try a copy and paste of another picture underneath in photoshop do you think it is way too false looking

I think the cut and paste looks ok, certainly on the pc screen. Not sure how it would in print mind.

I have sent her the head shot cropped to see if she likes it better and a copy of the one I replaced the sky.
So we will see what she thinks but my guess s it won't be the head shot so lets one my edit looks ok on canvas:)

1st one, she won't even notice the tree it's a great image of her dog.
 
As an owner of two of these dogs , the first is by far the best.
 
Thank you Gramps and Derek this one you both like was her first choice but if i am being honest apart from the tree the dog was a little soft I felt,at least when I zoomed in it was.
Maybe it would not show in a canvas?
 
Canvasses are alot more forgiving than you may expect. I personally think the shots are more than acceptable for printing use and the owner of the dogs would be delighted to have such beautiful pictures.

Very good effort!

The canvas arrives on Wednesday and I will let you know how it turns out :)

Well Canvas arrived and she loved it but sorry to say I did not!
It just looked like cheap paper stretched out over the frame very disappointed.
However sent her this and she can have it done herself later.

Like that last collage very much. GSD's are my favourite dog - own one now and have had many over the years. He's a beauty!
 
Lovely triptych of a gorgeous dog.

TBH, if she (the customer) loves it, it's a job well done even if you (the mere artist!) don't like the end result.
 
what a nice looking gsd, great pictures, i have a gsd female pup shes mainly black with tan on her legs so its quite hard to get a nice face shot.

I just got a very nice call from the owner to thank me, she is well pleased , and considering they were taken just for fun and practice I am happy I made her smile
 
I know it's a bit late now but in the first photo I would have copied just the dog, then blurred the background slightly and finally put the dog back in! Sorry for the late idea!
