Geotagging

Does anyone geotag their photos and if so what camera do you use?

Answer: Yes and I use a 30D and a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx. Any camera will work.

1) Get a gps device that will record a track and can read/write a gpx file.
2) Sync the track to you’re photos when downloading to your computer.

Started out looking for a tracking only unit but got a handheld gps because the added functionality more then makes up for the additional cost. Also wanted something that used AA batteries so if I ever ran out of power I could be up and running again in 2 minutes. I carry my eTrex like it was cell phone.

GPS Track of Bath on Google maps.

Syncing software
Downloader Pro GPS as a sidecar file.
Image Ingester GPS written directly in the exif data. (My preferred way because I use DPP which doesn’t like sidecar files)
GeoSetter for Windows Haven't used this program yet but will soon.

This thread got me started on my workflow.

Good GPS forum if one wants to check out the internet chatter on the various GPS units.

TakItWithMe lay down some lines in a Google map, connect the Garmin to computer, it loads a route into the Garmin with the same name as the Google map. This how I got myself around Europe, too cheap to buy a map of Europe.

If you have more questions let me know.

If you have Flickr you can do a bit of geotagging through that. Just upload the photo and then place it on a map which is where you took the photo. Very easy and a lot less expensive than buying a GPS tacking thing
