I have been reviewing various magazines/websites with a view to buying a standard zoom for my Nikon D7000 and there are many contrasting views, just interested to know why you think this is.

For example:
Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4. Jessops customer reviews 8/10; Digital Camera 3/5; What Digital Camera 91%; general reviews on here "great".

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8. Jessops 9.5/10; DC 4/5; WDC 94%; general reviews here "poor".

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC. Jessops 8.6/10; DC 3/5; WDC 91%; general reviews here "great".

And for wide angle:
Sigma 10-20 f/3.5. Jessops 9.2/10; DC 4/5; WDC 95%; general reviews here "poor".

Tokina 11-16 f/2.8. Jessops 9/10; DC 3/5; general comments here "best WA lens".

Hopefully my examples explains my point. I would not go near the Tamron 17-50 if it was not for the positive feedback on here.

Many reasons, not least that reviews are just the opinion of the person writing it.

The Tamron 17-50 f2.8 get fantastic review in TP forum. I got one myself for my D7000 and is also a backup to my Nikon 28-70 f2.8. Sharpness is superb even at f2.8. The lens is glue to my D7000 full time since I got it.

And it's reviews like that which have convinced me to give the Tamron a try.

I think the DC reviews stand out to me the most as they are not opinion based but based on standardised testing regimes. 4/5 for the Sigma 10-20 yet it gets poor reviews here, 3/5 for the Tokina 11-16 but it gets exceptional reports almost everywhere else.
