Anything out there that can beat the Canon 18-135 IS as a general walkabout lens?

Max is £250 (when I say MAX, lower is better lol)
I thrive off sharp images, especially as my 50mm f1.8 is my only lens lol.

Going on holiday so need a walkabout ideally...

Thanks.

With that price in mind - the Canon 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM is worth a look providing 28mm isn't too narrow on your crop sensor.

Yea i tthink 28mm is a bit too narrow. Want it wide as possible really.

The Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro comes in at £230, might not be long enough for you though. They also do a OS/HSM/Macro version for £280-maybe get used? I had the Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC OS HSM on my old 20D and it work pretty well

The 17-70mm macro sounds good. Wanted a macro lens too so with this guessing I can shoot at a very close distance to my subject.

What does OS/HSM mean?

also the sigma 18-50 2.8 is a nice lens at that price point.

They're very nice. I have had one for a few weeks and it's a big step up in IQ terms than my old (and well regarded) Nikon 18-55 kit lens. Constant 2.8 and 1:3 focusing is nice to have too.

I tested both the 28-135 IS and the 18-135 IS when I was looking for my walkabout. The 18-135 IS beat it in every respect.

Here's a thread of landscape shots taken entirely with the 18-135. Its a surprisingly good landscape lens amongst other things!

hmm 18-135 sounds like a cracker.

Anyone got anything that can beat this for the price range?
