General Flash

I always hear about essential lens to be packed away when on holidays etc.., but do alot of forum users here find flash essential item to be packed, do many use flash on wildlife or street photography :shrug: .Basically wondering have i overlooked flash importance and only thinking about weddings/studio work. Been thinking about buying the 580EX

For weddings & studio work (people photography in general) I'd say that flash is definitely very highly recommended & valuable - but as with most other things in our clear cut & uncomplicated hobby/chosen profession it is all open to interpretation
I don't use flash unless I'm working in my studio or under really bad lighting conditions as I much prefer natural light for my images. There are a great deal of people that will disagree with this approach due to the benefits of fill flash, etc. but we're all different & all have different approaches to photography & what works for one may not for another.
It's always good to own a flash however & I'd definitely recommend getting one (580 is next on my list too )

The 580 EX is an awesome flashgun. Every time I use it I'm gob smacked at how well it performs without any assistance from me.

I use natural light wherever possible.
Although the 20D has a popup flash it's nearly never used.
My bag always contains the 430EX. Just in case.
