Messing about with gels this morning and ive stuck them to the speedlights with a little bit of tape but it got me thinking why not just use the diffuser that is on the flash...apart from having to have the flash zoom set at 14mm i cant see much of an issue...or am i missing something 20221010_132312.jpg

Not if the light pattern suits your needs. But it could also be very wasteful (light/power/battery) and contaminate parts of the scene you don't want.

I just stick little dots of blue tack on the flash to hold the corners of the gel. If you press it onto the flash firmly, and press the gels on only as firmly as needed, the gels remove/interchange quickly and cleanly. It does eventually harden, or get dirty, and needs replaced.

I thought it couldnt of been as simple as that or id of heard it before...many thanks

You used to be able to get a set of gels for a flash, there was about 25 different one? with a velcro holder. You stuck a bit of velcro on the flash and the holder stuck to that, I seem to remember it being dirt cheap.
I never bothered with the velcro and used a rubber band free from the postman, well littered really on the pavement.
A quick look on fleabay shows something similar still available for a few quid.
