It looks like the new name for the Top Gear trio is going to be Gear Knobs (according to the Mirror) as trademark details have been found to show that the name, as well as Gear Nobs has been registered by Clarksons lawyers for TV programs and all associated merchandise.

Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond and James May's new car show looks set to be called Gear Knobs.

The former Top Gear co-hosts signed a reported £160million deal with Amazon Prime in July to present a new motoring programme on the online streaming service , and the title of their new-look programme may well poke fun at their old BBC show.

According to BuzzFeed, law firm Olswang, who are closely associated with Clarkson, registered the trademark Gear Knobs shortly before the trio signed their Amazon Prime deal.

This means the title can be used for TV shows and merchandising.

What's more, the trademark Gear Nobs was also registered, as well as Speedbird.
Could the latter be the new name for a Stig-like character in Clarkson, Hammond and May's new show?

Strangely it feels appropriate :)

I never did work out what Hammond brought to the show although did like May.

They were always calling each other knob in the TG era, so the running joke continues.

That's how May described Clarkson after the Oison incident.

Which would be wrong, the program was heading for the bin in the early 2000's, it was turned around by Wilman and the 3 knobs (their own description if the Mirror is right ;)).

My feeling is though that none of the four of them (including A.Wilman) would have necessarily achieved anything without the BBC.

Having been given a platform that has given them wealth and fame by the BBC, they go on to 'bite the hand' that had fed them so well over the many years.

Still, more power to them and Amazon :(
