im so excited i feel like its christmas eve. im off for an afternoon session with gavin hoey tomorrow and i CANT BLOODY WAIT! been wanting a lesson with him for 2 years, i find him so easy to follow on you tube i learn more from him than anyone else. i will let you know how it goes and report back tomorrow. just wondered if anyone else had had lessons with him and how did you find it?

That's wierd, I'd never heard of him till 30 minutes ago, just watched one of his tutorials on youtube. Hope it goes well for you.

He is a good teacher. Very clear and breaks stuff down well. Enjoy your day, where are you going for it?

He does need to lay off the clarity though. His more recent tutorial images have been far too grungy for my taste, the older more natural stuff was more pleasing.

 Jared Polin has his "I Shoot RAW" T-Shirts, Gavin should just have the word "Clarity" on his!

What I like about Gav is that he's not at all pretentious, like the "fro" or Kai or some of the others who can be patronising at the best of times. And then you have people who know no more than anyone else, but seem to imagine they're teaching, like Dombower ... eurgh ...

I actually learned bits and bobs here and there from smiley Gavin :)

I like watching Gavin, he keeps it simple. No need to over complicate matters.
Do agree with his recent grungyness. Maybe he's going through a mid life crisis and thats how he deals with it :D

I can't stand Fro, like you say he's very pretentious and doesn't actually come across knowing his subject all that well.
I love watching Kai on Digitalrev though, purely for the comedy, his reviews are pretty pointless to be honest but he cracks me up

I used to like Digi-Rev videos, they used to be funny - not to be taken seriously. But i think Kai is gone a bit too smarmy for his own good lately, he tries to hard with stale innuendos, he's a bit of a smug git really. But, I still watch their new vids out of old habit. I think Lok is funnier, probably unintentionally though :D

for those that were interested....

had a fantastic day, weather broke at the perfect time and got some cracking shots

gavin is as good in person as he is on his videos, and yes he likes the clarity slider, but so do i so his style of teaching was perfect for what i wanted. its each to there own, but if we all liked the same thing it would soon get boring :-)

here is a link to the images on here anyway. let me know what you think :-)

Some lovely HDR images there mate

Good job done there. I also notice a couple of very familiar compositions which he used in a two of his video shoots.
Glad you had a good time, makes its all worthwhile.

Glad you got something out of it. He's not for me I'm afraid. He irritates me.
