I'm getting married on September 12th this year. It's in the midlands near Stoke-On-Trent. Just wondering if there are any amateurs in the area that have a good understanding of events / weddings who know there way around a camera and lighting, who would like the opportunity to be our photographer for the day?

I would love to do the event myself, but as I'm the groom that will be a little difficult. I know I have asked for this experience myself in the past, something for the portfolio etc, so would like to give someone who is motivated the chance to do the same. We would cover food and travel costs etc, and would be giving a payment of some sorts (to be discussed).

This isn't a definate yet, but would like anyone who would be interested to perhaps give me a rough overview of themselves, and what you would be looking to get out of it.

As wedding threads tend to get out of hand, please only post if you are interested in helping out.

Stoke isn't too far from me, if you cover my travel expenses I'd be willing to help you out.

Oh no, not again? :gag:

(runs for cover donning tin hat)

Thanks for registering interest CSB. I will let the thread run for a while and then contact people registering interest.

Leading by example - just what we like to see :-)

Not a traditional wedding but a civil ceromony with suits and wedding dress atire, it's at a hall with landscaped gardens, which is where we are planning to have the photo's as there are some really nice areas. The whole day is at the same venue. Around 60 guests in the day, no fancy car as of yet. Not so fussed about evening photography but optional if that interests you.

I doubt amateurs will have an understanding of how the process works:shrug: will this be paid for :whistling:

Hey mate

I wish i could help but sadly i'm on my own honeymoon then.
Hope you have an amazing day just as i hope i do too

Mike

I'd love to give this a bash as I've been neglecting the wedding photography side of things since assisting for Janice and Hacker last year. I'm based in London, but willing to travel out to Stoke on Trent if travel/dinner costs are covered.

PM me to discuss further.

Cheers
Mike

Thanks to everyone who has registered interest so far by both PM and here in the thread. As mentioned this is not a definate yet, but please feel free to register interest if you haven't already, and I will get in contact with everyone in a month or so. If there is a lot of interest I may be willing to allow two people the opp, one as main and maybe one as an assistant to give someone who isn't quite as confident a chance also (if agreed by the main photographer). I belive in giving people a chance and all that

Once again thanks!

Hmm I think giving people a chance would mean paying a going rate for a wedding photographer don't you?

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying there? I don't want a professional if thats what you are saying. I want to allow those who are thinking of getting into wedding / events photography, that important foot on the ladder with their own shoot. As mentioned I'm not sure what you are trying to say exactly? If someone offered me this opp I would be jumping for the chance tbh, on that note I will be happy to return the favour for some experience of my own

Happy to act as second tog if that's any use

I can't take formal group shots to save my life but my wedding candids to date have been universally well received. PM me if you're interested and I'll forward some examples and testimonials.

I'm not bothered about travelling expenses and would burn the images to CD for you free of charge. I'm a gal who likes her food though so would expect to feast on your tab, be that behind the scenes in the kitchen or at table as an invited guest :)

If you are looking for professional results then you ought to offer a good price even to an inexperienced photographer. Thats what I meant. If you're not bothered how the pictures look thats fine - I hope you wouldn't complain to the photographer after the even that they are no good.

Ok Andy I see what you are saying, and fair enough if thats what you think. Are you saying you are interested in helping me out? Otherwise can we please not clutter the thread too much encase I miss anyone who is registering interest when I look back through, thanks

Cheeky young whipper :) If I was interested you'd be too far away of course.

Thread revival, not long now until the wedding, I will be in touch shortly with those who offered there services. Anyone else who would also like the chance please get in touch asap.

Would love to, but I am in Italy, watching the F1 and driving around the Lake Como ;)

I would like to register interest as an assistant photographer :)

You have enough interest as second togs! Wonder if they can work together. Would have been interested as I am shooting a wedding in Stoke on Trent the Sat before this but not sure I can stay there for this!

Good luck in your search!

Thanks for those who have registered further interest. If people would pm me or email me with there current areas of interest, examples, experience etc, and ideally what they are looking to gain from this experience I will then try to choose someone. Once again thanks for the offers!

Well it's not looking too promising now, most people are tied up that weekend now who offered their services. Last bump to see if there are any other people who would like some experience of shooting weddings, you would be the second photographer for the day so no pressure, just thought it would be a great opp in a lovely setting for adding to a portfolio. Appreciate there aren't many people from the s-o-t area. Think I will offer the opportunity to a couple of photo society type clubs possibly

I would have liked to have helped you out, and I most probably would have if you had contacted me when you first started this thread, one month notice is a bit short though and I'm now busy on that whole weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Good luck finding someone, I hope it works out for you.

Just a few points, but it really helps if the 2 togs know each other and have worked together before, they both know what each other are doing and what each's good/bad points are and cover each other, with 2 who don't know each other their might be some confusion over who's doing what, this could cause difficulities or even auguments. Also the styles might be totally different, which could lead to an "interesting" set of prints, then theres the question of who's editing who's pics?.
Good luck with your wedding day.
