Howdo,

Me and Mrs Candlestick have spotted a new fireplace we like, but the 2 showrooms that we are considering buying from do not have their own installation teams.

Can anybody recommend a fitter who could install our new living room centre piece in the Manchester area. The installer would need to run a gas pipe from the adjoining room (but the 2 rooms are open plan) and put in a fireplace. The chimney has been checked and the flue is fine.

Suggestions anyone?? :D

Hi Mr Candlestick,
We (the Mrs and I) live near Manchester - Bolton to be exact. We had a 'hole in the wall' gas fire fitted nearly 12 months ago - to replace a very old surface mounted fire.
The company that did the job was: Lee Spencer Fireplaces, their mobile is 07775 726 286 - They are based in Swinton.
They are quite rightly Gas Safe Registered (previously Corgi), but in any case YOU should also ensure that they still are registered.
Obviously, I am no expert, but in my opinion they did a good job, and cleaned up after themselves.
It might be worthwhile contacting them to see what can be done, and to get a quote etc.
I hope the above info helps,
Best wishes,
Bob.

Spot on, cheers Bob!! Swinton isn't far from us at all!! :) Out of interest, what kind of cost will we be looking at, if you don't mind me asking??

I have not got a clue Candlestick - I believe in our case the bill for labour and piping was about £500 - yes I know thats a lot of money but, in our case:
(1) the old fire had to be disconnected and removed, and
(2) rather a lot of brickwork had to be removed, thus making a 'hole' and
(3) new pipework had to be installed for the new fire.
I daresay they could give you a rough figure when they know what is invoved - I think they would probably have to visit you to suss everything out.
Sorry I cannot be more exact.

Bob.
