Hi folks

I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for a gas BBQ large enough for a family of 6 for under £300 ?

Also if there are any to avoid ?

It needs to be a hood type / 3 or 4 burner and an additional side burner / cabinet underneath not open legs / also if I can get the cover plus hose and pressure regulator included for that price the better.

This is the kind of thing............

Weber are probably out of my price range.

CADAC may just be within budget.

Other brands I've looked at are Landmann, BillyOh & Mastercook

I've looked at those in BQ which are thier own brand (Blooma) which I'm not discounting but they're the only ones that I can really view in the flesh.

Any pointers - good or bad - much appreciated.

Phil

do you need one for this year? have you a Homebase nearby? a neighbor got the Grillstream 4 burner end of season last year for £180(currently its £449) and its a beauty, we got a charcaol one in a similar way, 60% off coming to end of season, Homebase are superb for that.

mid July unless I absolutely had to have a new BBQ I would be waiting a month or so and keeping an eye on Homebase, you will probably find the Weber's they currently have come into your price range, although Weber tend to have the least discounts of any other.

Thanks David

There's a Homebase in Perth so yes.

We need it this week (actually needed it before now) so I'll see what they have.

I bought one from Homebase three years ago and it's still going strong.
I would suggest that you buy one with stainless burners, it will last consderably longer than the ones with cast iron burners.

That's a good heavy one too at 60KG.

I've looked at that one (albeit online) so good to hear your happy with yours.

Cooking on it again today. It's been used more than my normal cooker has over the past few weeks and will remain a permanent feature in my garden (y)

Can't offer any advice though regarding looking for others. I just saw this one for the best value at the time and snapped it up.

I didn't even know that when I bought it. My one has the flame tamer. There is a lot of smoke but I like that at a BBQ. If you don't then stand out the way whilst I put a fattier steak on:D

Everybody stays out the way when I cook LOL

To be fair I've been a 'real' BBQ person all my life and this will be my first gas one.

So have I and still have my coal half barrel BBQ. I only really got the gas one for ease of use and cleaning.

Cheers Hugh

I think that was one of the ones we looked at in B&Q yesterday.

From the outback direct website

"Not only have they decided to go back to the lava rock they have also designed their 2013 models with cast iron burners which are more durable than the previous stainless steel burners used."

Outback are a decent make, as are weber. Avoid the cheap rubbish b&q and the like sell. My sterling BBQ has been outside for 10 years and is still doing fine, if a little dirty!! Look at small independent BBQ stores.

Cheers for all the help

Ordered this Outback one earlier today and managed to get it for a knock down price......

Aye that's no cheap. I didn't realise I had to buy a gas canister (because I thought I already had one) and then fill it up with gas on top of that.

My father in law has a few so I'll nick one of his (y)

That'll certainly cut the cost, the cannister is pricey although it's a one off payment.

Had our 3 burner outback for 5 years now. All stemed from my time in Cyprus for 3 years. Brilliant but of kit and the outback spares are all readily available.
