we are currently with a energy provider Scottish power we are happy enough with the service provided ,our current dual tariff runs out at the end of the month and they wish to increase our payments by just under £40 per month ,going online or via the telephone just runs you into a brick wall of ,no thats the price we cant change it even though we are currently sat on a couple of hundred quid of yours in overpayment credits . we are happy with what we pay per month at the moment and although by switching it could possibly be cheaper its with companies I have never heard of ,but needs must so off we go to compare the market .

enter all the details though a lot of info on the online bill is difficult to access putting it mildly .

press submit and what comes out very near the top . yep you guessed it the quote from Scottish power for the next year fixed tariff at EXACTLY the same price as we now pay plus wait for it 1p extra per month ,the mind totally f*****g boggles .anyway submitted it now lets see what the kilted muppets can work out from that , they must sit there all day in there offices eating haggis and sporrans

I had the same with car insurance

I had this same situation with British Gas some years ago. Although they reduced their demand slightly they would not accept the current monthly payment. I decided to leave and asked for refund of £250 I was in credit. They delayed refund. I contacted CEO and eventually got refund and £250 compensation for the way it had been handled.

I went with OVO. They offered a good deal but, more especially, they offer interest on any credit. Initially it is 3% but then rises to 5% after a period. I am receiving 5% and quite happy to be in credit.

I’m with EDF. The new tariff was more expensive. I went through the cheap energy club and found the best tariff (with a big company) to be EDF. So I applied for a switch through them instead of directly with EDF.

I had planned to use a smaller company this time around but Spark Energy and Iresa (both of whom I was interested in switching to for this year), collapsed and that dissuaded me.

Your issues with Scottish Power won't end, even if you leave them as a customer. Almost 3 years after leaving them for another company, they chased me for payment that I didn't owe them. They had messed up the meter numbers on my account with someone else's, and wanted me to pay for their usage for 3 years. I eventually had to use the ombudsman to sort it all out, as Scottish Power refused to back down from their demands. I was awarded compensation, and Scottish Power also found a few hundred pounds of mine that they didn't refund when I left them as a customer. Even then it didn't stop, as they started chasing me again a few months later, and it took another call from the ombudsman to get them to update their systems.

I later found out that the meter confusion was with a neighbour, and after my case was sorted out with the ombudsman, they started hassling him for the 3 years of bills. Also ended up with the ombudsman being involved and SP found to be in the wrong.

Perhaps he found a cheaper forum ;)
