Hi there,

Not entirely sure if this is the best section to put this in!

I thought I would share my new project and ask for any advice or suggestions. I’m been targeting glamour photography for about a year now and while it’s been going well doing the shoots at the client’s homes, I would prefer my own space.

So the plan is to convert our garage into a home studio. While I have not measured it as of yet, I do think there is enough space for a decent set up. The walls are white and just need a wash down. What I will need is a background frame and was wondering if anyone can suggest the best way of doing this? Is it worth it to just buy one off ebay?

So anyone who’s done this before and can offer help - it would be much appreciated!

Thankings 

i ll be watching this thread . all the best

I visited Cowasaki's setup last night in his outbuilding which was smaller than a garage and he had a nice setup, hopefully he will be able to contribute here. I suppose your biggest obstacle is the space if you are doing commercial and charging for prints. Garage headroom will not be too great and will limit the shots a little and if you have props like a chaise-long it may be a little cluttered. I think you'll be surprised how much you can do, it's then your decision if it's enough. I'll be watching this thread too. Good luck.

For your background and train I would suggest getting white vinyl, This is quite inexpensive, easy to keep clean and hard wearing. Depending on the garage layout, you can get away with a backdrop frame and fix it direct to the wall.

I've currently got planning permission going through for a room above the garage as a hobbies room. My son and wife think it's for my son to have his friends around etc, but it's going to have white walls, a large white wall/backdrop at the end for a projector TV.

Be silly not to have it as a studio as well :D

I converted my garage into a studio.

The garage was 3.2m wide, 6 metres long.

All my studio stuff on my site and flickr was taken there.
I'm fortunate to have a pitched roof on it and that area holds a roller bracket for the backgrounds.

I only just get away with it size wise, but it works well.

Did you ever get your garage studio?
