Game of Thrones

The adverts are killing this!

What I do is start recording on my Sky box, and then at about 21:20 I start watching it. That way, I'm able to fast forward all the ad breaks and still finish watching it by 10PM when everyone else does, so it's safe to go onto Facebook without seeing any spoilers.

you are a genius. I wish I had thought of that. What do you do for those extra 20 minutes at the start?

I think Maeargery Tyrell is going to become my favourite character, but I'm sure it's going to work out with such an old actress, especially come the adaptation of the 4th/3rd book.

because she got her boobies out?

I like the the dwarf best

Fantastic box set Loved Game of Thrones. Also went and got Sparticus and Sparticus-Blood and Sand.
And Band of Brothers was tops.

But also we watched Walking Dead.

The Dwarf is superb actor... Although I lost my beer when he did his speech in the trial.

Tyrion: Where do I begin, my lords and ladies? I am a vile man, I confess it. My crimes and sins are beyond counting. I have lied and cheated, gambled and whored. I'm not particularly good at violence, but I'm good at convincing others to do violence for me. You want specifics, I suppose. When I was seven, I saw a servant girl bathing in the river. I stile her robe and she was forced to return to the castle naked and in tears. I closed my eyes, but I could still see her tits bouncing. When I was 10, I stuffed my uncle's boots with goat *****. When confronted with my crime, I blamed a squire. Poor boy was flogged, and I escaped justice. When I was 12 I milked my eel into a pot of turtle stew. I flogged the one-eyed snake, I skinned my sausage. I made the bald men cry into the turtle stew, which I believe my sister ate. At least I hope she did. I once brought a jackass and a honeycomb into a brothel....

Now why would you say that?

Tyrion is an awesome character, he's a good guy in a family of bad guys

I think hes as far from a good guy as anyone in that family is! he is totally out for himself but if anyone benefits on the side from what he gets up to then hes happy. Fantastic actor though, hope he goes on to bigger things from this. Although this should keep him employed for a good few years yet.

Most of my opinion of Tyrion is from the books, and the books show him to be doing the best for his family even if he's doesn't agree what has gone on before.

Even Jaime and Cersei become quite likeable as the story goes on.

I'm on the 7th book and can't see that with Cersei! She is that bad she is good:)

Great books and a great TV series. Although there are quite a few changes for TV. Having said that the books have that many complex characters that they could not have stuck to the storyline exactly.

Chris :)

I wish people who have read the books would stop putting spoilers in this tread. I now know that both cersei and Jamie aren't going to die in this series.

Please stop, or at least do a spoiler tag on your post first.

I'm on the 7th book

 Do you know something we don't? Are you best mates with GRRM or something and seeing unpublished drafts?

You see that she's a bit arrogant but I think you can also see that her children come first and the power comes second. She's certainly no Walder Frey or Vargo Hoat, who are truly nasty pieces of work.

Apologies Joe

Well, I am sat looking at 7 books so am not really sure where you are coming from. The first 5 are a box set and the last 2 are the new ones released a few weeks ago  Either I am losing the plot or that makes 7. Just off to ring my best mate GRRM to get a second count:shrug:

Chris :)

The last few books have been released as single volumes & split into two depending on the edition.

I assume so they have something to release in the insane 5 year gaps we've been having to wait for new content...

There are only 5 full books so far.

Yep, I know that...........and I'm still reading the 7th individual book in my possession, and fantastic they are too:thumbs:

Chris :)

Why say this then?

It's pretty obvious that "where he's coming from" is the fact that there's only 5 full books in the series so far. Regardless of how many pieces the publisher has split them into to make more money.....

Thanks for the clarification on that. I know how many books there are. I also know exactly what was meant. I also know what I meant. But it's good to know that there are always very helpful people on here willing to explain for us less able folks. Thanks again for taking the time to explain. Much appreciated.

Ps I would have put a smiley in there but can't find out how to do it on my iPad. Maybe that could be the next project for those wanting to explain to us less able folk ;-)

Just off to finish the last few pages of the 7th book in my possession but the 5th full book by the author just in case anyone was still confused or bothered.

Great books by the way (all 5 /7 of them).

Chris :-)

Well.....bloody hell! The smileys showed up all on their own when I did it using text. No help now needed. It's magic :-)

Chris

I was curious because to me your post read as rather sarcastic and condescending & I know it's easy to miss read a posts tone.

However your following posts make me think my initial opinion was correct.

On topic, having read the books first I can't really get into the series at it invariably doesn't fit with the way I imagined it while reading.

Also (and this will probably sound stupid) i don't like the way loads of the characters have eyebrows a completely different colour to their hair. :-P

Hi Harry,

The eyebrow and different hair colour is something that we were laughing about recently. It is a bit crackers.

I am a little like you in having read the books. The problem now is that much as I like the TV series very much I keep seeing bits where there have been significant changes that alter the way I perceived things in the books. I suppose the problem is that the books are so much more complex that it would have been impossible to portray it like for like.

Chris :)

Hi Chris,

Yeah, It's always very hard to transfer from one medium to another but to be fair they've done a far better job than most. I just have to many preconceptions as to what it should be like I guess.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed the eyebrows. I thought I was just being even more grumpy than normal :-D

It just seems like such a simple thing to get right.....

:)

surely if you knew that, then you would understand what he was talking about and instead of seemingly like you were confused that you had 7 books and he was only talking about there not being 7 your reply would have actually been something like:

"Yes I know there are 5 books, the ones I am reading have the last few volumes split into 2, so whilst the book I have is number 7 for me, it's not a 7th book as such"

or words to that effect? Instead you said you didn't know where he was coming from :shrug:

I'm not confused Joe but thanks for the concern:thumbs: Tis very much appreciated. There are so many caring people on the TP forums nowadays it's fantastic. That one is just for you Joe. I just wanted to send a little love back your way:love:

 Does it matter Joe?

When has it ever mattered to Joe? He just wants to help and share love around the TP forum. It's so uplifting being in the (interweb) presence of someone so knowledgable and giving of advice and opinions. Just off to the football thread now to gain valuable insight into the mind of a football genius that makes me just want to :notworthy:

Chris :)

I do like the series, but it's really let down by some of the acting and as mentioned the dodgy styling in places. The Lannisters (excluding the Imp) are so wooden and caricatured it makes me cringe. The woman in particular is dreadful.

Maybe I'm just spoiled after just finishing Rome for the 3rd time....very few series match it!

I found that episode quite a big anticlimax. I was expecting renly's death to be a bit more bloody, and Arya's first name shouldn't have been the Tickler!

Oi :bat: I haven't got round to catching up yet

I think they are supposed to be a little wooden, although I'm not sure where you get caricatured from :)

after this weeks eps its not imp its evil monkey now. Its a pity we are already half way threw.

That's what I get for watching family guy after :)
