Gambia bird watching.

I'm thinking of buying a canon 6d camera and the white lens 70-300. But wonder if this focal length will suffice. My other thought would be a 70-200 2.8 also white lens coupled with a converter. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether either of these combinations will be ok for the taking of bird fPhoto's in The Gambia.

I know precious little about where you are going, but wildlife, and birds in particular, usually mean very long focal lengths. Unless you can get very close to your subjects I think 300mm is the about the minimum you want.

As said the more reach the better. The 70-200 2.8 ISII is a fantastic lens. Coupled with the MkIII 2x converter is a nice combo (but very pricey). But you will drop a couple of stops which shouldn't be too much of a problem, just whack the ISO up a bit more.
Whether or not 400mm is going to be enough only time will tell.
The cheaper alternative would be the Sigma 120-500 bit more reach and a lot of peeps on here use it. I'm sure one will be along soon.
