Yes
Have any of you had the new update for 5.0 Lollipop yet? I haven't but my mate did a few days ago. He said since the update his S5 has been dead slow, disconnecting from Wifi all the time (lucky if it connects in the first place), the notification LED won't work anymore and it gets a lot hotter than normal. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there's any way of back to the software he was using before. I tried it with my Xperia Z when I got a dodgy update.

If any of you have downloaded the the OS update have you had any trouble with it?

I'm a bit wary until I hear about it from more people. Back in March I did an OS update for my Xperia Z work phone and it basically rendered the phone useless for 6months till they brought a fix out. It had to be plugged in to the charger all the time, it was like having another landline phone and I'm pretty sure a PC running windows 95 would have been faster.

I haven't heard anything good about the update !
I got my phone from EE & it's got different hardware to all the rest so there isn't an update yet. Maybe by the time it's available Samsung & Google will have fixed the bugs :)

Google was the main problem about the horrible update with my Xperia Zlast year. Something to do with Google Play Services or something like that.

I originally got my S5 with EE, but I put my Virgin Mobile card in because I get a better tariff (TV, phone and internet with them) and my wife put my EE card in her Iphone. How is the EE hardware different to the others? I didn't know that, probably why I haven't got an update yet.

If you check in settings/about device/model number

Mine is a SM-G901F, which has the same CPU/GPU as the Note 4, not the same as the "normal" S5. Basically it's a S5 plus :)

I have the same SM-G900F. I've updated to lollipop and I haven't had any problems at all. But... I did a quick search and it seems it may help if your friend performed a "wipe cache partition" There's a link HERE with instructions although you can find other sites with the same easily enough. I've absolutely no idea if it will make a difference as I've never done it myself, so the usual disclaimers apply!

Thanks i'll forward that onto him so he can look about. I don't like messing with my mobile too much so I'm going to wait a while a see what comes of the update after a few weeks. If I actually get it that is.

I've just tried it, no adverse effects that I can see. But I think you're right it's always better to leave it for a little while before updating and let others have the problems first!
Then you get the fixed version :)

Aye I'm not going through the nightmare I had with my Xperia Z when that got the kitkat update lol. 6months it took Google and Sony to bring out a fix.

Ahh now, Mrs Chap got notified to update, I didn't, though we both on vodafone with identical S5s... So I upgraded manually as it were... have noticed its a bit slow and sticky, will try that cache wipe thing and let you know :)
Ta for the link

I'm not going to update...heard too many negative things. Updated my S2 when an update came out a couple of years ago and it was the worst decision ever!

Aye I'll admit the thought of having something new and different is a bit tempting, but I don't want to kill my only phone.

OK - I updated my S5 to lollipop. (SM-G500F)

Had a few issues with wifi dropping out.

Just now performed the wipe cache as detailed above. Easy to do and works fine.

~Yup, what he said :)

That's alright then. I've still not received the option to update but because the S5 is still a very popular phone I'd imagine a permanent fix should come along soon. I think the main reason they took so long to fix my xperia Z was because the Z2 was just rolling out at the time and by then the z was a bit old.

Updated to lollipop last week (SM-G900F) and received an error with messaging, a quick check and because phone is locked to Vodafone a setting needed changed, all fine since.

what setting was it ? also on vodafone and while the cache wipe helped, still a bit sluggish compared to previously, tho all working.
