Need a pointer perhaps to a factory reset for my Galaxy S2

Tried to send a text and as I pressed send the phone shut down.

Tried rebooting and then removing battery and leaving phone for 10 minutes then restarting. All that happens is I get lists of applications restarting and cannot get access to control the phone.

Wondering if anyone has idea how to clean reboot the phone?

Any pointers helpful as I need to get access to some data stored there.

Steve

Edit

Tried to get the S2 into Recovery Mode by restarting holding both the volume up button and power button at the same time - did not take me any further than normal boot and failing apps screens

Only thing I could suggest is reflashing the rom but and it is a very big but you will loose all the data on the phone. I had to do it once with my s2

After putting my s2 in the washing machine I managed to get the pics etc off my connecting to pc/usb. It wasn't a 5 minute job and involved taking the entire phone to pieces and plugging/unplugging the cable in countless times untill it managed to somehow connect. What kind of file is it you're after ?

Thanks for that - may well be a final option.

At present I cannot get connection via USB cable to be able to get files off the phone. Normally I would put files I need on the microSD card but moved it to my new S4 yesterday.

I think I need a repair engineer or shop.

Cheers

Hi Coley

No luck connecting USB cable.

Its an Excel file I need off the phone for a meeting in the morning. The author of the file is mid air to Australia but hoping he will pick up mail/text in Singapore...

Cheers

Steve I had an issue with mine where it kept turning its self off and other such things. When I googled some of the symptoms it turned out to be an issue with the USB connector. They repaired that then I had overheating problems and the main board had to be replaced. It is a pain but try giving Samsung a bell they were great.

Been having the overheating thing too.

Very hot too. Will try Samsung. This is literally a first release S2 and overall it has been brilliant.

Main hope is the guy on his way to Australia when he gets to Singapore.

Mine probably took 25-50 times before it finally connected. Hope you get it sorted, its a right pita when they go wrong

You are right I thought my trousers were on fire when it started. Mine was a first release aswell. I am guessing it's the main board is fried. Hope you get what you need for your meeting tomorrow.

Has it left Bluetooth on? You might be able to transfer via that.

If you've taken the sd card out and put it in the other phone that might be why it's gone mad. Turn the phone off and put that card back in before switching it on.

Might have to wing it :-(

Reading around I have to concur that the main board is cooked.

Three tech are ringing me back.

Steve

If you try Suz's suggestion, back the card up first.

Hi S

No only use BT when in the car or with my Jawbone Jambox.

Already tried the card idea.

Cheers for your input!

Steve

Only music on the card and some apps. I had music from NAS box so they are safe.

The card os back in the S4 working thanfully.

Grateful for input

Two options to consider
1.see if you can get ADB to recognise the phone. If possible you may be able to use command prompts to copy internal SD card contents.

2. Flash a new ROM. Doing this only clears the system/data partition, it doesn't actually format the internal SD space where you keep the likes of music, photos and hopefully your file you need.
By all means take this with a pinch of salt if you have never flashed Roms before but I have flashed upwards of 10-15 times on my GS2 and the personal contents are always there afterwards.

Any other Q's feel free to ask here or drop a pm.

Thanks for that.

Guy landed in Singapore without phone but emailed assistant from his office in Paris to forward file to.me soon as they get in.

Friend of a friend will come to my place at 8am and flash the phone so should have file in time.

So am grateful to all for interest and advice

Will update outcome

Update

Phone yielded file when the "man who can" got his hands on the phone at 8:30 this morning. Had the file by 9:00 Arrived with printed worksheets an summaries and file from Paris arrived (just) on.my S4.

All this angst for a one hour meeting so home for lunchtime.

S2 re-flashed and working (retired as soon as I clear all).

Cheers to all !
